This is something somebody said to me today.

Why does it always have to be perceived this way? Why does it have to be a competition that one parent has it harder than the other? The truth is, BOTH PARENTS STRUGGLE, JUST IN DIFFERENT WAYS!

Nobody ever sits back and thinks about how hard it is for most men to adjust to being a parent. Legally, men are only given 2 weeks off work to take as ‘paternity leave’, which means that they get 2 WEEKS to bond with their baby, some can’t even afford that time off and use up their holidays or even return to work early. Nobody ever mentions the fact that a big part of those 2 weeks are also spent taking care of their partner who rightfully needs to rest after their body has just gone through excruciating amounts of pain. Nobody mentions how tiring it is to return back to work after such a short amount of time, considering most newborns will wake between every 2-4 hours for a feed throughout the night. Nobody mentions the fact that after long days at work, a lot of men don’t get chance to have a break, because they feel obligated to take over from the Mum as soon as they step foot through the door. Nobody mentions that without the Fathers returning back to work, these families would have such a massive financial burden on them, and that there’s men out there who work themselves into the ground to ensure they’re providing for their family.

People don’t consider it “hard” for the men to return to work, and a lot of people think it’s the easier option and we need to break this stigma before it does too much damage!

If you’ve ever struggled with any of this, please DM us or come along to our Walk N Talk, this page is for EVERY father, it doesn’t matter your kids age nor gender🩵🙌🏻

INTRODUCTION TO MYSELF AND THE PAGE:
Hello everybody, my name is Cameron and welcome to Dads ‘N’ Lads Merseyside. This post is just so you can all get to know me a bit better, and to show it’s okay to show that vulnerable side.

I’m a 21 y/o Dad to my wonderful baby boy, Ronnie. Being a Dad has changed my life in so many incredible ways, including, now feeling like I have a purpose, having something more important than myself to work for and feeling that inexplainable amount of love from someone so small. However, it isn’t always sunshines and rainbows. In reality, I’ve struggled a lot since becoming a Dad, throughout my life I’ve had many battles with my mental health, struggling with depression and anxiety, which have been coming and going since around 15/16 and the symptoms that these thing bring have brought challenges to parenthood. I struggle with severe overstimulation with silly things like when he gets overworked or when he won’t go to sleep, being massively fatigued because he’s now getting to an age where he needs my undivided attention 24/7 and feeling like I’m not a good enough Dad/I’m not doing enough to provide for my family. But, I’m one of the lucky ones to have such an incredible support network around me who are always there to help me.

This brings me on to why I’ve made this page. Like I said, I’m very lucky to have people around me who I can count on, but I’m also aware that’s not the case for a lot of people. Dads ‘N’ Lads was created to give those people that support, allowing them to feel heard, assisting with anything at all that you might be struggling with since becoming a parent. I want to provide a positive impact on Dad’s Mental, Physical and overall wellbeing so that they can be the best version of themselves for their family, and most importantly their children.

Our DMs are always open, there will be some announcements soon with details for the first event we will be doing. Like I said on the previous post, I hope you can all follow along on the journey and I look forward to hearing from you soon🩵
