Ingrown toenails affect around 5% of the population and are one of the most common foot problems seen in clinic. They occur when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, redness, swelling and sometimes infection.

The most common causes are incorrect nail cutting, cutting nails too short or down the sides, tight or ill-fitting footwear, repeated pressure, and trauma. In many cases, ingrown toenails are completely preventable with proper nail care and early treatment.

Leaving them untreated can lead to worsening pain and infection — especially for those with diabetes or poor circulation. Get in touch for more information ✉️

Nail Bullets 👣🫘

Fungal nail infections don’t go away with wishful thinking… or nail polish. 💅🦠
In fact, covering up discoloured, thickened nails often makes the problem worse — and much harder to treat.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

🔸 What is it?
Fungal nail infection (onychomycosis) happens when fungi get under the nail and begin breaking it down. It thrives in warm, moist environments — like sweaty shoes or communal showers.

🔸 Common signs:
• Yellow, white, or brown discolouration
• Thickened or crumbly nails
• Nails that lift or smell unusual
• Spreading to other nails or skin (athlete’s foot!)

🔸 What doesn’t work:
❌ Nail polish (traps moisture and makes it worse)
❌ Ignoring it (fungus won’t clear up on its own)
❌ Over-the-counter creams alone (they often don’t pe*****te the nail)

🔸 What actually works:
✅ Professional assessment to confirm it’s fungal
✅ Targeted treatment (topical or oral depending on severity)
✅ Nail debridement (trimming and thinning infected nail)
✅ Advice on hygiene, footwear, and prevention

👣 The earlier you treat it, the better the results.
Let’s stop hiding fungal nails — and start healing them properly. Book your foot health appointment today.

What is a corn on the toes & how do we get them? 🌽

A corn is a small area of thickened, hardened skin that forms when your toes are under constant pressure or friction. Unlike hard skin, corns have a deep central core that presses into the skin — which is why they can be so painful, especially in shoes.

So how do corns develop?
👉 Tight or narrow footwear
👉 High heels or pointed shoes
👉 Toes rubbing together
👉 Poor foot mechanics or toe deformities
👉 Walking differently due to pain elsewhere
👉 Not reducing pressure early enough

Your skin is basically saying: “I’m under too much pressure, I need protection.”
The problem? The more pressure, the deeper and more painful the corn becomes.

🚫 Corns don’t just disappear on their own
🚫 Cutting them yourself can make things worse

✔️ Removing the corn properly
✔️ Relieving the pressure that caused it
✔️ Wearing the correct footwear

…is the only way to stop them coming back 🌽
