Scrotal Testicular Scan
A scrotal testicular scan can help to:
• Evaluate scrotal mass or swelling (e.g., Testicular tumour, epididymal cyst, Hydrocele)
• Characterise testicular tumour
• Look for the cause of testicular pain (inflammation or infection)
• Assess post-trauma
• locate and assess undescended te**is
• look at possible causes of infertility/chronic pain (varicocele)
What a scrotal ultrasound can reveal;
A scrotal ultrasound scan can provide detailed images of the epididymis, testicles and other surrounding structures.
This can therefore detect:
• Spermatoceles or Hydroceles (cysts or fluid collections).
• Enlarged veins in the sc***um (Varicoceles), which may cause a reduction in s***m quality; however, this is treatable. There are non-surgical and surgical options
• Obstructions in the tubes that carry s***m.
• Signs of inflammation, infection, or tumours.
• Structural abnormalities or smaller testicle/s (Testicular atrophy – shrinking of one or both testicles). Testicular atrophy may be caused by testicular cancer, age, diseases, varicocele, testicular torsion, excessive alcohol usage, orchitis, or hormone imbalances.
While any of the findings detailed above could indicate issues that can cause infertility, further testing is usually required for clinical correlation.
