A wonderful weekend meditating and learning from the teaching of Kadampa Buddhism on how to control the mind and improve concentration at their Nagarjuna Meditation Centre in Thornby, Northamptonshire ❤️

It's such a beautiful place. Gorgeous grounds, with gravel paths leading through woodlands down to a lake. I wasn't allowed to get in, but the sounds of the waterfalls and the rain on the leaves were magical... so peaceful ❤️

My accommodation was in the converted stables... a single en suite, simple but beautifully presented. A bed so soft I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. No TV, no WiFi... just me and my thoughts... perfect ❤️

The food was delicious... each meal cooked by a different volunteer... curries, noodles, jacket potatoes, soup... no photos as I was too busy scoffing and chatting with the other attendees ❤️

Over the course of the stay, there were 7 one hour long meditations in the stunning meditation hall led by the wonderful Gen Leksang... each starting with a meditation on the breath to still our minds, followed by some teachings and then a mediation on a virtuous object of our choice to improve our concentration. I chose Buddha, and the effect this had on me was incredible. Challenging at times, but by the end of the sessions, I felt like I was floating on pure love ❤️

I wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first Buddhist retreat.. it's definitely not my last 🙏🏻❤️

A Hopi ear candle treatment (also known as thermal-auricular therapy) is a beautifully relaxing therapy that involves placing a specially designed hollow candle into the ear, which is then lit, creating a mild vacuum effect, sometimes referred to as the “chimney effect,” which helps to draw out impurities or wax.

It is a safe, non invasive way of cleaning the ear and leaves no residues behind that may cause irritation, unlike some eardrops. It is safe for people of all ages.

The treatment begins with a gentle massage around the ear area to warm and soften any wax within the ear canal, and then with the client in a comfortable position, the candle is gently inserted into the ear, creating a light seal, and the upper end is lit.

As the candle burns, it produces a gentle warmth and a soft crackling sound, which is very soothing and relaxing. Once the candle has burned to a safe length, it is removed and extinguished in water and then repeated on the other side.

The treatment is completed with a gentle facial massage to further enhance relaxation and stimulate lymphatic drainage.

Benefits of ear candling include:

- Relief from ear discomfort due to wax build-up **
- Relief from sinus problems, headaches, and migraines
- Helps open to airways and ease congestion after colds or flu
- Relaxation and stress reduction
- Promotes self-healing
- Improved clarity of hearing and feeling of lightness in the head area
- Reduction of tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- Relief from pressure after flying or diving

** In cases of hard or compacted wax, it may take a few sessions to remove it, and if there is an infection within the ear, medication may be needed.

Candling is an extremely relaxing process, and many people have this regularly, not only to help keep the ears clean but also to just enjoy the relaxed feeling they experience after. This is also a lovely treatment to have before Reiki as it soothes the whole system, and therefore, you are more relaxed, ready to receive the wonderful energy.

Life feels a lot at the moment

So many people are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, low, just simply not themselves.

There are many factors that are contributing to these feelings, and Reiki can not take them all away, but it does help.

It soothes the system, calms the mind, and relaxes the body... hard to do ourselves when things don't feel easy.

Reiki switches our nervous systems from the sympathetic, our fight or flight response where cortisol is high, and we feel in danger to the parasympathetic, our rest and repair response where everything feels more relaxed.

It's not a magic wand, but it's a deep breath in, a step back, a warm embrace
