🎉 Celebrating one year of Georgia Brown Physiotherapy 🎉
I’d be lying if I said taking the leap to go self-employed and starting my own business was a total breeze (is it for anyone?!). All I’ve ever known is NHS employment, and suddenly you’re now faced with spreadsheets, insurance and memberships, expenses, paperwork, tax returns and the inability to “leave work at the office”! It’s mentally and physically a 24 hour job in many ways.
One of the hardest things for me has been having to “sell yourself” - sell your business, sell yourself (as a person and as a professional), sell your services, advertising, marketing, social media, battling the feelings of “imposter syndrome” etc. In the NHS, you’re never out of work - the work is given to you on a plate, the patients come in a constant conveyor belt without needing to actively source them. But being self-employed suddenly means finding the work yourself. And not only finding it, but maintaining it, growing it, nourishing it and building a trusted reputation.
But on the other hand, self-employment brings so much joy and reward, you have so much more quality time to give your clients everything that they deserve and require from you, without the pressure that working in the NHS gives.
Having said that, I wouldn’t be where I am in my career and knowledge without the NHS, and I am endlessly proud and grateful for the NHS as a service, and also for everything it’s given me as a physiotherapist. And for that reason, I do still work in the NHS alongside my business.
I’ve learnt so much in just one year of business, and I’m so excited to see what the next year brings. I want to say a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart for all my clients (past and present) that have trusted me with themselves and their animals this year.
So here’s a big cheers 🥂 to every business owner out there doing their absolute best. And remember, nothing worth having is meant to be easy 👊🏻❤️🐶🐴 👩🏼
