School Transport for 16-19 year olds has long been a sticky area, with parents usually either refused it for their child, or required to pay a contribution. Please complete this consultation so that Contact have evidence to back up their campaign.

New transport survey for 16-19 year olds has launched! 📝

Transport to school and college is a hot topic – and under HUGE scrutiny, with the National Audit Office releasing a report at the end of October and the Public Accounts Committee (a body of MP’s tasked with scrutiny of public spending) carrying out an Inquiry now.

We’ve launched a short survey to find out more about transport for 16-19 year olds in England so that we can represent families’ experiences in our submission to the Inquiry, giving robust and up to date evidence.

Valuable information if your child is going through Transition to Adulthood.

A disabled child receiving social care support in England will move into adult services when they turn 18.

But what *should* happen during the transition period?

Here are the basics — but our website has more information and advice on your family's rights, legal changes, pay structures and responsibility over decisions:

FREE WEBINAR! Planning for the Future: Wills & Trusts
On Thursday 23 October 2025 at 10am, Philip Warford from Renaissance Legal will provide information on how families and carers can ensure that someone with a learning disability is taken care of when they are no longer around, by making a suitable will or setting up a trust.
The webinar will cover:
- The importance of writing a Will and Letter of Wishes.
- Protecting means-tested benefits and support packages through trusts.
- The different types of trusts.
- Contact’s offer and services.
- A Q&A session at the end.
These webinars are always really popular due to Philip’s accessible style of presenting. We encourage you to book your place today as spaces are limited.

At Contact, we understand that as a parent carer, planning for your child’s financial future can feel overwhelming. Families often tell us that they are worried about how being left money might negatively impact their child’s entitlement to means-tested benefits and social care support. Ho...

Our Story

The “Birmingham SEND Info” page is the sole work of one person, me, Anne Barnes. It was originally the page for the previous Birmingham PCF, but following the decision to close that version of the PCF, I have continued to maintain this page as a service to the Parent Carers of Birmingham. I draw on my lived experience as a Parent Carer and the experience and contacts gained by over 20 years of voluntary work supporting Parent Carers through organisations such as: Face-2-Face, Link-Upp, Parent Views Count, IMPACT, BPCF, Carers UK and as a Special School Governor.

Feel free to share posts and comment with your feedback!

Take good care of yourselves!

Anne
