Ephemera of Birmingham helps create a lasting tribute to Alice, aged 18, after this stunning bull sculpture was bought at our auction night back in October 🐂🤍
We’ve received these lovely photos from Diane, a retired hospice nurse, who was the successful bidder for Ephemera of Birmingham by Lois Cordelia at the Bulls in the City live auction.
As a big fan of the trail, Diane really wanted to purchase a sculpture as her family has a long history in Birmingham as craftspeople - but the purchase also had an even more special meaning to Diane.
She explained: “Devastatingly I lost my youngest child Alice Rose coming up to two years ago from cardiomyopathy, aged just 18. I turned our front garden into a memorial in her honour.
“On one side of the garden is a willow rose arch with an 'Alice' rose growing up it, but on the other side there was a bit of a gap - which turns out to be bull shaped!
“When I purchased him, I thought I’d put him safely in my back garden until I realised he was 10cm wider than the side passage of my house! And so, it was meant to be, as he now resides in my front garden where other people can enjoy him as well. Although he is tethered with padlocks and bike chains to stop him escaping!
“We absolutely adore him and came to his pet name Brandy from the ‘Warning’ poem by Jenny Joseph: "When I get old I will wear purple and spend my pension on brandy.”
Thank you so much to Diane for sharing Alice Rose's story with us - we're glad to have been a small part of remembering her 🩷
