How do you choose the right training provider?

When it comes to training, cost and convenience are only part of the picture.
We believe the right provider should offer far more than just a certificate at the end of the day.

Things to consider include:

1) Accreditations and recognised quality standards
2) Experienced trainers who understand real industry challenges
3) A proven track record and learner feedback
4) Quality facilities and a positive learning environment
5) Ongoing support before, during and after your course

At Up To Speed Training, we believe training should be about genuine learning, confidence and long-term value - not just ticking a box.

We’ve shared our thoughts on what businesses and learners should look for when choosing a provider:

We recently received this message from a learner, and it’s safe to say it meant a lot to the whole team here at Up To Speed Training.

Taking the time to send feedback like this isn’t something we ever take for granted. To know that what we strive for as a business is not only seen, but truly felt by the people we support, is incredibly rewarding.

From the learning environment and facilities, to the support provided throughout the journey, right through to the quality of our trainers - this is exactly the experience we aim to deliver across each and every course.

We’re very intentional about what we do and how we do it, so hearing feedback like this is both humbling and motivating in equal measure.

A huge thank you to everyone who takes the time to share their experience with us - it drives us forward to keep providing the very best experience we can for all of our learners.

EXPIRY OF NHSS12 POST-EXPIRY GRACE PERIOD: THE DATE IS ALMOST HERE!

Over the last couple of months, you might have noticed we've been very vocal about the removal of the NHSS12 post-expiry grace period for expired qualifications.

The grace period is no more as of 31st March 2026.

From 1 April 2026, the rules on qualification renewals change and there will be no grace period at all.

If a qualification expires:

⏰ It’s expired

❌ Renewal will no longer be an option

🔄 The learner will have to start from scratch

We've shared this update on more than one occasion to ensure you're aware of this change, and this is another reminder not to leave it too late.

Don't get caught out!

✅ Check expiry dates now

✅ Plan renewals early

✅ Avoid unnecessary downtime and retraining

📢 Important Update: Scheduled Maintenance for Online Bookings

To ensure we continue providing you with the fastest and most reliable service possible, we will be performing an essential technical upgrade to our online booking system next month.

While we are excited about these improvements, it does mean our digital booking platform will be temporarily offline.

📅 Key Dates & Times
Please take note of the following schedule to ensure your plans aren’t interrupted:

❌ System Offline: Saturday 7th March & Sunday 8th March 2026.

✅ System Restored: Monday 9th March 2026.

During this 48-hour window, you will be unable to make, modify, or cancel bookings via our website. We recommend securing any course or assessment bookings prior to Friday 6th March to avoid any inconvenience.

Why are we doing this?

This isn't just routine maintenance. We are implementing a significant backend upgrade designed to:
📈 Increase site speed and responsiveness.
🔒 Enhance security protocols for your personal data.
💸 Introduce a more intuitive interface for a smoother checkout experience.

We’re Here to Help
We understand that timing is everything, and we sincerely apologise for any disruption this may cause. Our team is working around the clock to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we improve our digital experience.

Seventeen years ago, Up To Speed Training opened its doors.

Today, we’re proud to be celebrating 17 years of growth, longevity and industry trust.

Over that time, we’ve evolved from a 3-person team, with a single location of 1 x training room, into a national training organisation, with a multi-training room HQ in Birmingham and additional strategic locations in:

> Dewsbury, West Yorkshire - serving the North

> Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire - supporting the South

Reaching 17 is a huge milestone for us, as well as for many people when it's not tied to business achievements. In the UK, 17 means you can donate blood, join the armed forces with consent, open many types of bank accounts - and of course, learn to drive.

So, as we hit 17, let Up To Speed drive your training, and your career, forward.

On what's a landmark occasion for us, we also want to add a very big thank you to every learner, client, partner and team member who has walked through our doors over the years. We appreciate you.

*REMINDER: DON''T GET CAUGHT OUT!*

From 1 April 2026, the rules on qualification renewals change.

The current post-expiry grace period ends on 31 March 2026.

After that date, there will be no grace period at all.

If a qualification expires:

⏰ It’s expired
❌ Renewal will no longer be an option after expiry
🔄 The learner will have to start from scratch

We shared this update last month, and this is your reminder not to leave it too late.

Here's our 3-point checklist to not being caught out:

✅ Check expiry dates now
✅ Plan renewals early
✅ Avoid unnecessary downtime and retraining

Because when it comes to renewals…

TM Contractors – are you really protecting your workforce from manual handling injuries?

Manual handling training is common across the sector, but much of it is still generic and built around controlled environments that don’t reflect the reality of traffic management on the highway.

Cones, signs, frames, sandbags, restricted vehicle spaces, uneven ground, poor weather and live traffic all create a very different risk profile – yet this is rarely addressed in off-the-shelf training.

We’ve explored why task-specific, traffic management focused manual handling training matters, and why treating TM like every other industry may be leaving gaps in protection for operatives and employers alike.

A reminder that from 1st April 2026, a key change is coming that will impact the Temporary Traffic Management sector.

Lantra and the NHSS 12ABCD Committee are removing the six-month post-expiry grace period for NHSS 12 skills.

What this means:

> Once a skill expires, it’s expired

> There is no grace period for renewal after this date

> To regain an expired skill, it must be restarted from scratch

Only valid and current qualifications will appear on the e-Card - expired ones will NOT

Our advice to avoid being caught out:

> Review skills now to ensure you have captured any renewals in good time before 1st April

> Moving forward, plan renewals early. Treat expiry dates as hard deadlines

> Check e-Cards regularly

Thank You for a Fantastic 2025!

As the year draws to a close, everyone at Up To Speed Training would like to say a huge thank you to our clients, partners and followers for your continued support throughout 2025.

It’s been a successful and progressive year for the business, marked by growth, development and an exciting milestone - expanding our national footprint to three training centres, with the addition of our Hemel Hempstead hub this summer.

We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved this year and grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey with us.

Our offices will close for the Christmas period on 24th December, and reopen on 5th January 2026.

We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to working with you again in 2026.
