Retinol and prescription retinoids are both forms of vitamin A used to improve acne, pigmentation, skin texture and signs of ageing.

However, they are NOT the same.

Retinol must first be converted into retinoic acid before the skin can use it. This makes it gentler but slower acting. Prescription retinoids already contain the active form, which is why they can produce stronger results but require careful introduction.

Understanding the difference helps determine the right treatment approach for your skin.
