When we experience pain, we often wonder “what the hell did I do?”
In our search for answers, many go to DR. Google. Others go right to the orthopaedic doctor who orders an array of images to “find out” what is going on inside.
Either path leads us to labels. We attempt to place a name on our pain. Like...
‘That torn meniscus is the reason for your knee pain” OR “see those degenerative discs? That’s why your back hurts.”
Maybe you’ve been told that your shoulder pain is the result of “those impinged rotator cuff tendons.”
In doing so we often lose our identity.
We are no longer the adventurous person, runner, weightlifter or doing yoga.
We become our pain. We become our injury. We become our diagnosis.
When in reality, 90% of what we find on images or online is completely harmless. All of these scary “findings” are really just natural wear and tear of getting older and being an active human.
Pain is just information. Be careful how you decide to label it. It guides us to better movement if we take the time to slow down, breathe, and seek to understand.
Your body. Your choice.
Find yourself a professional who understands movement, who understands pain, who understands you.
You relationship to pain is in movement...
