Are you ready to relax?

Taking care of ourselves is especially important in times of high stress. I don't know about you but I have found the relentlessness of recent events very worrying but there are things we all can do to help ourselves. As well as setting aside time to de-stress, perhaps with a massage or holistic facial it is important to nurture ourselves with the small things. Eating a varied diet, getting out in nature and my favourite - curling up with a good book. What do you do to nurture yourself?

Health is an inside job. I'm a holistic therapist which means if you come to me for a massage or other treatment and you have a particular health issue we'll look you whole-istically and at ways you can tweak your lifestyle to help you manage.

This is my minestrone soup. All veggies from my allotment (No I won't expect you to grow your own unless you want to), wholemeal pasta and marigold organic bullion powder. Some is going in the freezer for later in the year when I need a fresh veggie fix. Great for vitamins and gut health. I'm going to be experimenting with fermentation next!!

Dear friends and clients. I hope you are keeping cool in this heat. We're getting to the time of day when temperatures will be at their hottest.

Please make sure that you are drinking enough and stay out of the sun if at all possible.

I've been fiddling about on my computer and doing techy things whilst hiding from the worst of the weather. I may even get around to that elusive website .... eventually. Anyway stay safe, cool and hydrated and here are some sweet peas from the garden

Here's an up to date researched common sense article about cats and essential oils. I have a cat. I also have been using and diffusing essential oils for as long as he's lived with us. I hope you find this useful. (With thanks to Sal who's done the research so we don't have to)

Several years ago, I wrote a blog to dispel the concern that it is not safe to diffuse essential oils around cats. I did -and still- err on the cautious side by recommending that it is not a good idea to apply essential oils topically, to never allow your cat to ingest essential oils, and when diffu...

My personal journey with stress has gone from it running (and ruining) my life, think burnout to me learning about it in depth, gaining a diploma in stress management and mastering managing it in my life.

The first thing I tell clients is not to fear stress. You can make it your friend and be the master of it, but first you have to recognise it.

So how does stress show up in your life? Feel free to comment below 👇

Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life. ... Even positive life changes such as a promotion, a mortgage, or the birth of a child produce stress.
Stress in itself is neutral, but prolonged stress that isn’t managed well can become a problem for your body and its ability to function well and help you stay healthy
We feel stress in different ways. This month I'm going to talk about my toolbox of stress management - follow me, like and share to join me for the journey.

Holistic Health with Heart

Once upon a time there was a little girl who’s parents moved to the Middle East (Dubai to be precise) and her whole world changed. Gone was the rain splattered pavements of grey London, replaced by slightly sticky, shimmering, black tar pavements, red sandstone and mud built medina’s and vibrant, smelly and loud souks. It was here that I first fell in love with the exotic scents of the spice and perfume souks. The smell of a real sandalwood box, ceder of lebanon chess pieces and the calming mint tea and the spicy cardamom tea - all served with a smile and a stroke of our blond hair - for luck - by tea-boys who looked older than my father. We had an Indian maid (a mother of two boys who used to be our companions in fort building and sand dune surfing and rolling) who practiced aruvedic medicine and massage. It was here at her side that I learned that health is a choice, and a passion for learning was ignited. Roxana is probably long gone but her insistence on looking at the whole person, the lifestyle and what was normal for that body stood me in good stead bringing up my own family.

Life always throws challenges at us and I have not been immune. Through nurturing myself back to wholeness from depression, anxiety and a near death trauma I have learned how amazing our bodies and minds are. I believe that we hold the key within to manage our own human condition and that we are guided by ourselves to wellness, if we would just stop and listen a while.

I offer treatments that nourish the mind/body connection and I wholeheartedly believe in the power of touch being a simple but profound human need that we often neglect in our hurry for the next item on the list. Aromatherapy has the capacity to connect with our inner being and calm the storms that may rage in our subconscious. More pragmatically who hasn’t used vicks or olbas oil when treating a cold? Essential oils are man made aromatic compounds distilled from plant material. As such they are powerful essences, that should be treated with respect and knowledge. An aromatherapist such as myself would take a consultation and then look at what we feel you would benefit from and blend a prescriptive oil just for you and your treatment such as massage therapy or a salve for an achy joint for example.

Our treatment room is located on the Moseley/Balsall Heath border and is a tranquil escape from the busy city. We are an ethical business and working towards being carbon neutral. All our products are organic and ethically sourced and we are proud to stock Oshadi Organics and Neals Yard Remedies - as they are carbon neutral and have been from 2008, long before it was on many beauty brands radars. Our energy is sourced 100% from a green energy suppler and our towels are organic cotton. We don’t use disposable products where we can avoid this - We believe that our health and happiness shouldn’t cost the Earth and we are constantly striving to be a more sustainable business because we believe that by putting sustainability at the heart of what we do we live our values everyday.
