Everyone's experience is different, but during the early stages of dementia, some people find they're able to remain independent at home in the same way they did before the diagnosis.

1️⃣ Their usually clean and tidy home is becoming disorderly, unclean or things are piling up.

2️⃣ They are showing signs of memory loss. This can include misplacing things, missing appointments or forgetting to pay bills.

3️⃣ Their personal hygiene is declining. Perhaps they're not washing themselves or their clothes as regularly as they normally would.

4️⃣ They have started to isolate themselves, stopped engaging with hobbies or other general changes in behaviour.

5️⃣ They have lost weight suddenly because they're struggling to prepare meals or even forgetting to eat.

Whilst Alzheimer's Disease affects people differently, there's several signs you can look out for that would indicate a visit to the GP is required.

Getting an early diagnosis has a wealth of benefits, including:

✅️ Access to treatments that may slow the progression of the disease
✅️ Access to dedicated support services
✅️ Better management of symptoms
✅️ Opportunity to put plans in place with loved ones
✅️ Maintaining independence longer

It's important to note that Alzheimer's is not a natural part of ageing! If you notice any of these signs in yourself or someone you love, we'd highly recommend seeking advice from a doctor.
