'Shame is insidious, it creeps into our everyday life and how we respond to it confirms or informs how we feel and what we do as a result of that feeling.'

This one felt quite difficult to write but I am pleased that I stuck with it as shame is not openly addressed enough, in my opinion. Whilst the article may kick off with 'period shame' it is applicable to everyone. If it feels uncomfortable to read, lean into the feeling and ask yourself why.

Conversations concerning mental health, the stigma and personal experiences with mental health issues are not always easy to articulate. 'The Expulsion of Exulansis' a play created by Siyani Sheth looks to kick start these conversations in a creative and thought provoking way.

The play is unique in the sense that we get an insight into the modern day epidemic of teenage mental illness from the perspective of a young person.

All proceeds go to - the UK's leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health.

Showing 29th - 31st August at Studio Spaces, London. For more information visit https://the-expulsion-of-exulansis.com/

For tickets visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-expulsion-of-exulansis-tickets-635996862737?aff=erelpanelorg

Look forward to seeing you there

This play follows the true story of a girl’s journey overcoming mental illness whilst navigating exams, relationships, friendships & more.

Happy International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day

For me, a celebration, celebrating something or someone is a doing thing; a verb. It is super important to recognise the hands that have raised us, the shoulders that have supported us and arms that have held us. For all the women in my life that have been there, shown up, listened – thank you. The only real way I know to show my gratitude is to ‘pay it forward’ to the ‘women of tomorrow.’ I also want to be there, show up and listen.

However – the theme of this year’s International Women's Day – has got me thinking about ‘equity’ and what it means in this context because I think it is an important thing for all of us to be able to get our head around.

Embracing equity is means accepting the fact that we are all different and that we are not equal – there is not always a level playing field. ‘Embracing’ it to me, means working towards each individual getting what they need and being supported to be able to reach their potential, goals, successes etc

Companies around the world will be working on trying to champion this years IWD theme by reviewing their EDI mandate and organisations will be celebrating by handing out accolades to recognise the contribution of women - all this is great and should really be a given.

But how about we think a little more closer to home, what can I do/we do to Embrace Equity? Challenging stereotypes and biases in one’s own home or community, or may be even challenging your own? Encouraging women in your own life to find their own voice or maybe it’s about finding yours and listening to it? How will you Embrace Equity?

Wishing you all a very Happy International Women's Day

‘We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it - we have to go through it’ I love children’s books for the wisdom they impart and this particular phrase from ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen has been a running theme in many a therapy session with clients this year.
We can try and avoid difficult situations by procrastinating, hiding, distracting ourselves with other things but that doesn’t always mean that our difficulties dissipate. Sometimes the only way is ‘through it’ even though this may feel impossible in the moment
