This autumn, there has been a change in who is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination. This means that you may not be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine this year, even if you were last year.

On the advice of the JCVI, the focus of COVID-19 vaccinations is shifting towards targeted vaccination of those at highest risk of serious disease. So this autumn, COVID-19 vaccinations are being offered to:
β€’ adults aged 75 years and over
β€’ residents in care homes for older adults
β€’ people who are immunosuppressed

People who are immunosuppressed include those undergoing some chemotherapy and radiotherapy; transplant recipients, people with HIV; people with genetic conditions or who take medicines that supress their immune system long-term; people who have experienced blood cancers, plus some other specific groups. The definition of immunosuppressed is quite complicated but we've included a link in the comments to the 'green book' which gives more detail.

If you are not in one of the eligible groups this year, a pharmacist or GP won’t be able to give you the COVID-19 vaccine. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and for being kind to staff who are delivering the vaccination programme.

Make your defibrillator count – help us save lives ahead of Restart a Heart Day πŸ’“

This October, EEAST is urging schools, community groups, and organisations to make sure they register their defibrillators and make them publicly accessible.

Unregistered defibs can’t be located by 999 call handlers – and that could cost vital minutes in a cardiac emergency.

βœ… Check if your defib is registered: https://www.defibfinder.uk
βœ… Register it: www.thecircuit.uk

Together, we can save lives.

πŸ’“ Learn CPR, Save a Life!

This October, EEAST is hosting free CPR training events across the East of England as part of the national Restart a Heart Day campaign.

Cardiac arrests can happen anywhere – often at home – and knowing CPR could help save someone you love.

πŸ“… Events run throughout the month
πŸ“ Find your nearest session on our website:

Let’s close the gap between cardiac arrests and bystander CPR.

More details about the Restart a Heart Day campaign can be found on the Resuscitation Council's website.

Health services across Hertfordshire and west Essex are currently experiencing major pressures. A&E departments at our hospitals only have the capacity to treat people who have serious, life-threatening or dangerous conditions. If you come to A&E with a minor condition or illness, your care will not be prioritised. You may be sent away to visit a GP practice or speak to a pharmacist.

If you are unwell or injured and not sure where to go please visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111 first. This saves you time and effort and is the best way to ensure NHS staff can treat you effectively if needed.
