School opens therapy suite in memory of much-loved site manager…
A special school in the area has opened a new therapy suite in memory of a much-loved member of staff who passed away unexpectedly last year.
Harlow Fields School and College lost its site manager, Paul Cash, on 20 January 2025. Paul was a central figure at the school and was adored by staff and pupils alike.
Colleagues describe Paul as someone who was always there – a familiar face around the site, someone who knew everyone and looked out for the children at every opportunity. Although his role was behind the scenes, Paul was deeply pupil-centred and everything he did was guided by what was best for the children and young people at Harlow Fields.
Paul was also known for his warmth, humour and cheeky personality, often bringing a smile to others even on busy days. His sudden passing left a “great big, gaping hole” in the school community.
Following his death, many generous donations were made in Paul’s memory. The school chose to use these funds to transform an existing space into a dedicated therapy suite, creating something lasting and meaningful for pupils.
Therapies play an essential role for many children at Harlow Fields, supporting communication, emotional wellbeing and physical development. The new suite provides a calm, dedicated base for speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, and is also used when the school’s reflexologist visits. Staff describe it as a quiet factory of care and progress, where small but vital steps are taken every day.
The Paul Cash Therapy Suite was officially opened on 22 January 2026 in a quiet and solemn moment. The opening was led by Paul’s wife, Karen, assisted by Tom, from Daniel Robinson & Sons Old Harlow, and was a time for reflection and remembrance.
Headteacher Kathleen Faherty said:
“Paul was completely pupil centred. Everything he did was about doing the right thing for our children, often quietly and without fuss. Using the donations made in his memory to create a space that supports our pupils every day felt like the right thing to do. Through this therapy suite, Paul remains part of Harlow Fields, and the important work that will take place here reflects his values and our belief in working together to succeed.”
The school says the suite ensures Paul’s legacy will continue, supporting pupils in the way he always did - with care, kindness and heart. ❤
