🎉IMPACT 🎉
Below are the assessment results from a young girl attending a Blackpool Academy, before (in turquoise) and after (in orange) intervention with an SLT Assistant.
Before she had severely delayed vocab and grammar, and delayed phonology, after she was 'within normal limits', i.e. doing well for her age.
Here's the child's voice - “I like to come play games with you. It really fun!”

Really enjoyed the Annual IGPP Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Conference 2026 yesterday.

A highlight was bumping into inspirational people like Chantal Bryan from https://www.teachustoo.org.uk/ Teach Us Too😀

We'd agree, there is strong research evidence linking nursery rhyme knowledge, then phonological awareness to later reading ability

Singing songs and nursery rhymes with your child is more than just a fun way to belt out a tune together! Children often pay closer attention when there’s music involved, and they find it easier to pick up new words when they hear them in a song or rhyme.

A few simple things make a difference:

🎵 Slow it down - singing a little more slowly helps children hear and process the words.
👏 Add actions or props - movements and objects support understanding and build vocabulary.
🔁 Repeat favourites - repetition strengthens memory, rhythm and rhyme patterns.

In Peep TALK, we’re sharing simple ideas you can try at home, along with what songs and rhymes help your child to learn. 🎶

There's a lot to like about this white paper... Additional funding upfront (before any changes), more funding for early support, increasing inclusivity across whole schools etc.

We'll be looking further into the ‘Experts at Hand’ service and how the Specialist Provision Packages will look after those with highest needs.

Any reform also need to protect our teaching staff, giving them the tools and support to enable children to thrive.

We'll be sharing our thoughts with the consultation - get yours in too - SENDreform.CONSULTATION@education.gov.uk

🌱 Reminder for grown-ups:

Kids aren’t born knowing how to do everything — they’re still learning!
Sometimes when a child acts out, it’s not "bad behaviour" — it’s a message:

"I need help,"
"I’m still learning,"
"Please understand me."

Let’s slow down, listen with love, and give them time to grow.

Every child learns in their own way, at their own pace ❤️

Talk It Out!
👶🧠💬

Did you know chatting with your little one helps grow their brain? 🧠❤️
Even if they’re not talking yet – they’re listening and learning!

🟣 Language Tip of the Day:
🛒 Talk through your routine!
At the shops? Say things like:
🧃 “Let’s find the juice!”
🍌 “These bananas are yellow!”
🎉 Make it fun – silly voices welcome! 😄

🗣️ The more they hear, the more they learn!
