We'd agree, there is strong research evidence linking nursery rhyme knowledge, then phonological awareness to later reading ability
Singing songs and nursery rhymes with your child is more than just a fun way to belt out a tune together! Children often pay closer attention when there’s music involved, and they find it easier to pick up new words when they hear them in a song or rhyme.
A few simple things make a difference:
🎵 Slow it down - singing a little more slowly helps children hear and process the words.
👏 Add actions or props - movements and objects support understanding and build vocabulary.
🔁 Repeat favourites - repetition strengthens memory, rhythm and rhyme patterns.
In Peep TALK, we’re sharing simple ideas you can try at home, along with what songs and rhymes help your child to learn. 🎶
