🌼 Social Prescribing Day – 26 March 2026 🌼

Today we’re recognising Social Prescribing and the vital role it plays in supporting health and wellbeing beyond medical treatment.

What is Social Prescribing?
Many things that affect our health can’t be treated by doctors or medicine alone — such as loneliness, isolation, stress, or worries around debt or housing.
Social prescribing helps by connecting people to non medical support in their communities to address these unmet needs.
This support is often provided by a Social Prescribing Link Worker (or an equivalent role), who works alongside healthcare teams to focus on what matters to the individual.

🧩 Examples of social prescribing support include:
• Helping someone who feels isolated to join a befriending group, art class, or community gardening project
• Connecting someone under financial stress with services that support debt management or benefits advice
• Supporting someone with high blood pressure to take up an exercise option they feel comfortable with
Social prescribing recognises the complexities of people’s lives and the inequalities they may face. It can help change the circumstances that make people unwell, support people to manage existing health conditions, build confidence, and strengthen connections within the community.

💙 Today we celebrate the power of community, connection, and support in improving health and wellbeing

📢 Important Patient Information – Meningitis Enquiries

Please be aware that, in line with national guidance, only a small number of individuals are eligible for vaccination. These individuals will have been contacted directly by their university, school, or public health officials.

If you have not been contacted directly, there is no need to get in touch with the practice regarding this matter.

☎️ Please only contact us about this if you have been advised that you are eligible and have returned home locally.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We wanted to let all our patients know that we are currently experiencing significant staff shortages due to unexpected sickness.

This means that waiting times may be longer than usual, and we may not be able to respond as quickly as we would like.

We truly appreciate your patience, kindness, and understanding while our team works hard to continue providing safe and effective care during this challenging period.

Thank you for bearing with us.

Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.

🌷 Mother’s Day at Adelaide Street Family Practice 🌷

Today we celebrate all the incredible mums in our community — in every form that motherhood takes.

We’re thinking of:

• Those who are parenting little ones, big ones, and grown ones
• Those who are trying to conceive or navigating fertility journeys
• Those who hold their children in their hearts rather than their arms
• Those who have experienced loss, longing, or love that looks different than expected
• Those who are mother figures, caregivers, and supporters in someone’s life
• Those who find today joyful, complicated, or somewhere in between

Mother’s Day can bring a mix of emotions, and however you’re feeling today, you’re seen, valued, and supported.

From all of us at Adelaide Street Family Practice, we’re here for you — today and every day. 💛

If you pop out, even to grab a towel, and your child goes under the water, you won’t hear it. Drowning is silent. And can happen very quickly.

Sadly, one child a month drowns at home. Usually in the bath.

You can stop this happening by staying with your baby or young child all the time they’re in the bath.

Keep them within arm’s reach to keep them safe. And if you need to go anywhere, take them out of the bath and with you.
