🌼 Social Prescribing Day – 26 March 2026 🌼
Today we’re recognising Social Prescribing and the vital role it plays in supporting health and wellbeing beyond medical treatment.
What is Social Prescribing?
Many things that affect our health can’t be treated by doctors or medicine alone — such as loneliness, isolation, stress, or worries around debt or housing.
Social prescribing helps by connecting people to non medical support in their communities to address these unmet needs.
This support is often provided by a Social Prescribing Link Worker (or an equivalent role), who works alongside healthcare teams to focus on what matters to the individual.
🧩 Examples of social prescribing support include:
• Helping someone who feels isolated to join a befriending group, art class, or community gardening project
• Connecting someone under financial stress with services that support debt management or benefits advice
• Supporting someone with high blood pressure to take up an exercise option they feel comfortable with
Social prescribing recognises the complexities of people’s lives and the inequalities they may face. It can help change the circumstances that make people unwell, support people to manage existing health conditions, build confidence, and strengthen connections within the community.
💙 Today we celebrate the power of community, connection, and support in improving health and wellbeing
