Break the taboo – make menopause part of everyday conversation

A Menopause Cafe, aimed at breaking down the stigma around menopause and raising awareness of its impact on those experiencing it, their families, friends and their colleagues, will take place at Blend Coffee Lounge, High Street, Perth PH1 5QJ, from 6.00 – 7.30pm on Wednesday 4th February 2026.

A Menopause Cafe is a relaxed discussion group, open to all ages and genders. There are no talks and no experts - the conversations are guided by the people who attend, creating an open, supportive space for sharing experiences and asking questions.

The Menopause Cafe movement began in Perth, Scotland in 2017 and has since grown into a worldwide initiative, with volunteers hosting pop-up events across the UK, Bahrain, Mexico, the USA, Canada, Austria, Australia and new this year – Croatia!

Rachel Weiss, founder of the Menopause Cafe charity, says:

“The Menopause Cafe is for everyone who wants to talk about menopause - to share their stories, experiences and questions - all made that little bit easier with tea and cake.

Unfortunately, many people feel they should just ‘get on with’ the menopause, with some never talking to friends or family about it. People can come along simply to listen or to join in the discussions, hopefully leaving with a clearer sense of the impact menopause can have on those experiencing it, as well as on their families, friends and colleagues.”

The Perth event is being organised by Heather Borderie at Blend Coffee Lounge.

Heather said:

“Menopause Cafe Perth is the home of Menopause Cafe charity. Whether you’re experiencing menopause, supporting someone who is, or just curious to learn more, everyone is welcome.

Expect friendly faces, open conversation, and even a few laughs - along with good tea, coffee, and cake.

Open to everyone, impartial, and not-for-profit - this is a warm and welcoming space where everyone can feel seen, heard, and supported as we talk all things menopause.

Got some new year wellbeing tips? Bring them along! Have questions? Ask others at the event! Want to bring a friend (or two… or three)? Absolutely! Just book ahead so we can manage space.”

The Menopause Cafe is FREE to attend and open to all - refreshments available to purchase.

Menopause Cafe charity creates spaces for conversations about menopause, to normalise this transition stage.

· We support volunteers worldwide who host pop-up Menopause Cafe events, open to all regardless of age or gender. People, often strangers, meet online or in person, to drink tea, eat cake and talk menopause. There are no speakers or experts.

· We have organised 5 Menopause Festivals, , with medical speakers, entertainment and a range of creative workshops, where participants came to learn and laugh together, finding their tribe.

· We have designed the world’s first menopause awareness ribbon. Wearing a menopause ribbon shows others that you are open to talking about the menopause. This can be especially helpful for colleagues in the workplace to know who they can approach and that they are open to talk about menopause. The ribbon can be purchased from https://menopausecafe.org/shop to be sold in workplaces, schools, further education and retail outlets to encourage more people to make menopause part of everyday conversation.

The charity was founded by Rachel Weiss in Perth, Scotland, in 2017.

We hope that our Falls Awareness Week campaign has helped you to think about what you can do to reduce your risk of a fall. This year’s theme of “From Awareness to Action” underlines the fact that falls are not a normal part of ageing and that many falls can be prevented.

Having a fall can leave you feeling quite shaken up - and even the thought of falling can affect your confidence.

It is hoped that by following the tips and advice we have shared this week you will reduce your chance of having a fall, even if you’ve had one in the past.

If you have had a fall it is important to report this to any health or social worker you are in contact with (this could be your GP, District Nurse, Social Worker and Occupational Therapist).

Visit the Falls Support page https://tinyurl.com/yj29wbe8
on NHS Tayside’s website for more information about the Falls Service in your local area.
