Shoulder pain is a common issues I see in clinic, here’s an insight into today’s session with Newcastle United Women’s U21 coach Courtney.
My client came in with a shoulder issue, so after the initial consultation we carried out a series of special tests to pinpoint where the pain was coming from. Pain was noticeable during resisted movements, which often indicates a potential issue with the rotator cuff.
From there, treatment focused on
• Deep tissue work around the shoulder
• Targeting the rotator cuff muscles
• Trigger Points
• Soft tissue release techniques to improve mobility and reduce tension
• Finishing with active cupping to promote blood flow and recovery
🔍 Why this matters
The rotator cuff plays a key role in stabilising the shoulder. When these muscles are tight, weak, or irritated, it can lead to pain with movement, especially with resistance. Addressing both muscle tension and range of movement is key to recovery.
