There are two more bank holidays coming up, which can affect local pharmacy and GP opening times.
The NHS are encouraging Sussex residents to put a spring in their step by making sure they’re prepared to manage any health concerns which may arise.
Any essential medications which are due to run out before or during the long weekend should be reordered in good time. GP practices may need at least three working days to process repeat prescriptions and pharmacies may not always be able to dispense medications on the spot, depending on how busy they are. The NHS App makes it quick and easy to request repeat medications at any time.
With pharmacies offering reduced opening hours, local people can search 'find a pharmacy' to find one that's open nearby or visit the NHS England website for a list of bank holiday pharmacy opening hours and a handy map of where they are located.
While GP surgeries are closed, people are encouraged to treat minor illnesses, such as coughs, colds, and upset stomachs, at home, using advice and over-the-counter remedies. It’s a good idea to stock up on essentials for a home first aid kit and medicine cabinet such as painkillers, indigestion remedies and hay fever tablets.
Local Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs), Minor Injury Units (MIUs), and walk-in centres will also be open over the Bank Holiday. These services can often treat conditions more quickly than busy A&E departments.
If anyone is unsure where to go, NHS 111 is available online, by phone or through the NHS App for 24/7 health advice.
