National Self Care Week 17-23 November: Looking after yourself, so we can look after everyone
This week we’re encouraging simple, safe self-care steps that help you stay well and help us prioritise those who need GP appointments most.
💙Know your symptoms: NHS 111 online can guide you to the right care: https://111.nhs.uk
🩵Use your community pharmacy for minor illnesses (coughs, colds, rashes, tummy upsets). No appointment needed.
💙Keep a home medicines cabinet: pain relief, antihistamines, oral rehydration salts, and a thermometer.
🩵Manage long-term conditions: order repeat prescriptions in good time via the NHS App and keep your reviews up to date.
💙Vaccinations: check if you’re eligible for flu/COVID jabs via the NHS App or NHS website.
Mental wellbeing: small daily habits matter—sleep, movement, time outdoors, connection. If work stress is affecting you, NHS England’s wellbeing resources may help: https://www.england.nhs.uk/supporting-our-nhs-people/support-now/
☎When to contact us:
Worsening or persistent symptoms
Babies and young children who are unwell
Frailty, pregnancy, long-term conditions, or if you’re immunocompromised
‼Red flag symptoms (severe chest pain, breathlessness, stroke symptoms, heavy bleeding) — call 999.
