A fear of flying is not just a fear of airplanes. Research shows that flying anxieties can be divided into two groups. Some fear the loss of external control, worrying about plane crashes due to turbulence and heights. Others fear the loss of internal control, dreading panic attacks, bodily catastrophes, and being trapped without help. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is the most successful form of therapy for overcoming this fear.

As a CBT counsellor, I want to address a common feeling many experience between Christmas and New Year: a sense of low mood. Here are some points to consider:

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: It’s normal to feel low after the holidays. Recognising these emotions is essential.

2. Reflect on Expectations: Holiday expectations can lead to disappointment. Reflect on the difference between what you expected and reality.

3. Practice Mindfulness: Use mindfulness techniques to focus on the present and appreciate small joys.
