A heartfelt thank you to Kirsty at BLÜM Floral - Bolsover for this beautiful Christmas wreath. Your thoughtful gesture truly brightened our day. Working in the funeral profession can make it challenging to feel the spirit of the season, but this gift brought a warm reminder of the kindness around us. 🎄✨

With the family’s permission, we share this photo from Tony’s funeral. ❤️

Tony and his wife lovingly restored a Sentinel DV44, a project they began back in 1980. Over 11 years, with dedication, patience, and passion, they brought the lorry back to life. They then spent many wonderful years enjoying road runs all over the UK, creating memories that will never be forgotten.

It feels deeply fitting and incredibly special that this very lorry carried Tony on his final journey — a true tribute to the man, his craftsmanship, and the life he lived.

Some people aren’t counting down to Christmas, they’re counting down how many “firsts” they have to survive without the person they miss most.

While the world hangs lights and wraps presents, they’re just trying to make it through a season that doesn’t feel the same anymore.

Grief doesn’t take a holiday.
It sneaks into songs, traditions, and quiet moments where laughter used to live.
The memories sting a little deeper.
The silence stretches a little longer.

So if the holidays feel heavy this year, you’re not broken, you’re human.
You don’t owe anyone cheer.
You’re allowed to cry, to miss, to remember.

And if your table is still full, cherish it.
Take the picture.
Say I love you.
Hold them close.

Because somewhere out there, someone would give anything for just one more Christmas with the person they love.

History

The independent family funeral service now known as STUBBINS & HOPE was founded in 1904 by Merrill Stubbins, a local business man. Originally he started making coffins in Scarsdale Street, Carr Vale before moving to the present premises at High Street. He was a builder and carpenter and also sold building supplies.

Following the death of Arthur in 1990 Jean continued with the business taking daughter Susan and son Simon into the partnership. Following Jean's retirement Susan and Simon now own and manage the business are proud to be the fourth generation of the family to be providing a high class personal service, that the people of Bolsover and surrounding areas have quite rightly come to expect, from one of the leading independent Funeral Directors.

From its humble beginnings in 1904 the business continues to grow under the leadership of Susan and Simon who are both members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and both hold the recognised NAFD diploma in Funeral Directing.

Susan and Simon both have children who show a keen interest in the business and are eager to take STUBBINS & HOPE into the fifth generation offering the same compassionate sympathetic professional service.
