🌟 Christy 🌟

1. What’s something you genuinely look forward to at the end of a busy week?

Saturday Parkrun or planning a longer run that fits around family time. I enjoy mapping out a route to wherever we’re going over the weekend and meeting my family there. It keeps me moving and helps clear my head after a busy week of planning, organising, and managing complex client work.

2. If you could instantly become an expert in any skill (serious or silly), what would you choose and why?

I'd love to be multilingual, or even just bilingual would do! Being able to pick up new languages when traveling would be really cool, I only ever seem to master a hello or thank you.

3. What’s a small joy or simple pleasure that never fails to make your day better?

Whenever I get a call from my support teams, office staff, or case managers just to talk through ideas or suggestions. Those conversations reinforce the positive working relationships we’ve built and remind me how strong our connections are. Open communication reassures me that I’m doing a good job as both a manager and a colleague.

4. Which place — near or far — feels like your “happy place,” and what makes it special to you?

Lyme Park in Cheshire- I've had many happy walks around Lyme Park with my young family- hot chocolates up at the Cage in the freezing cold always makes me feel happy.

5. What food, drink, or treat is your ultimate comfort go to, no matter the occasion?

Homemade rhubarb crumble with custard, or maybe cheese and crackers with grapes. 🍇 🧀

6. If you could meet any person from history (living or dead, real or fictional) who would it be and why?

Alison Hammond purely for the laughs and her infectious energy. I love watching her TV bloopers!

7. What do you love about your job?

The privilege of being part of someone's journey to recovery after an acquired brain injury. It’s such a personal journey, and I find real purpose in managing and coordinating the care and therapies that help people and their families rebuild their lives.

8. What’s your pet hate? Don’t hold back 😊

Alexa. She never listens when I need her. I swear some days she deliberately misunderstands me!

Nutrition is a powerful part of ABI recovery. In this video, Sian Riley of Red Pepper Nutrition explains how the right balance of nutrients can help support healing and stabilise energy levels. Good nutrition helps prevent secondary health issues too, such as obesity and cardiovascular disease.

As Case Managers, we often see how fatigue, appetite changes or cognitive challenges can affect our clients' eating habits. Dietitians like Sian help us create realistic, sustainable plans that support both physical health and emotional wellbeing.

We've had some amazing feedback that we just have to share with the world!

"It’s been so lovely joining Beacon, I don’t even know how to describe it. It opened a lot of doors for us, not just in terms of care, but everything. I’ve never had such an attentive case manager, and it worries me that I let it [previous service] go on for so long … I think because we didn’t know any different.

I always feel like I’ve got someone to talk to or I can just quickly email... it’s two people at the problem. It feels so nice, so refreshing. And I feel like [client] is finally paying for a service where it’s actually useful. And it’s so strange to say these things because, it should have been from the beginning [with previous service].

It’s like going from like below economy to go into first class. It feels like that honestly. It feels really, really good."

A huge thank you to this support worker and many others who make such a difference to our clients' lives. What a team we are!

Occupational Therapists play a crucial role in helping people rebuild their daily lives after an ABI. In this video, Ryan Price from Heads Up Therapies explores how OT can identify barriers to independence and introduce practical strategies, equipment and environmental adaptations that make life feel manageable again.

As Case Managers, we work closely with OTs to ensure clients have the right support at home, in the community and at work. Their insight helps us turn clinical goals into meaningful, everyday achievements.

When our clients' health gets complicated, coordination becomes the foundation of quality care. As Case Managers, it's our job to help align services like oncology, community nursing, therapy, and family support so clients aren’t left to carry the clipboard alone.

Through our years of experience, we've learned that evidence‑based planning saves energy for the stuff that really matters: living!

A huge milestone for one of Sophie's clients who’s currently studying at university — he’s just secured a highly competitive placement in London’s financial district.

Sophie will be working closely with him and his MDT to make sure he has the right support in place to live and thrive in the city for the next year.

Moments like this remind us what the right team, the right environment, and the right encouragement can unlock.

Neuropsychology helps us understand how an ABI can shape a person’s thinking, emotions and behaviour. In this video, Dr Mary Delaney explains how changes in memory, attention, planning and emotional regulation can influence everyday life.

As Case Managers, we rely on neuropsychologists to help us build a clearer picture of a client’s cognitive strengths and vulnerabilities. Their assessments guide the whole team, ensuring our goals — and the client’s goals — are realistic, compassionate and truly person‑centred.

GET TO KNOW OUR TEAM!

🌟SOPHIE🌟

1. What’s something you genuinely look forward to at the end of a busy week?

A long bath with candles and some chilled music! And a movie night with my kids.

2. If you could instantly become an expert in any skill (serious or silly), what would you choose and why?

I would love to be a professional piano player and play alongside a big band! So much fun!

3. What’s a small joy or simple pleasure that never fails to make your day better?

Having a good laugh with my colleagues when working, keeping the mood up and sharing experiences.

4. Which place — near or far — feels like your “happy place,” and what makes it special to you?

100% Budapest, I feel at peace and calm there. Particularly Szigetmonostor, an island on the river Danube where my cousin lives, there's a north tip of the island where the river splits and it is simply beautiful, and where me and Rob got married. I have a strong sense of feeling close to my grandad who was Hungarian and simply the best person ever!

5. What food, drink, or treat is your ultimate comfort go to, no matter the occasion?

Chocolate and a mug of milk like a little old lady (or a big child)?

6. If you could meet any person from history (living or dead, real or fictional) who would it be and why?

Freddie Mercury! He was so charismatic, quirky, talented and interesting! I would love to have seen him in modern times. I am a Queen geek - get me at a pub quiz with anything Queen related and we will win ;)

7. What do you love about your job?

I love seeing our client's quality of life and independence improve. I also love to work alongside our team who have shared ethics, values and sense of humour!

8. What’s your pet hate? Don’t hold back 😊

Slow internet connections when everything is urgent to me ;)
When my husband moves my belongings to tidy up - let me be the messy person I am, haha!!

Acquired Brain Injury affects every person differently, and no two journeys look the same. In this introduction, our Senior Case Manager, Elaine O’Flaherty, talks about the many ways ABI can influence daily life, from cognition and communication to mobility, fatigue and emotional wellbeing.

As Case Managers, our role is to understand the whole picture. We listen, coordinate, advocate and bring together the right clinicians at the right time, ensuring each person has a team around them who truly understands their needs. This series highlights some of those colleagues and the vital work they do in supporting recovery.

In complex injury journeys, mood dips are completely normal, expected even. This is why we help our clients and their families build routines that make tough days survivable.

Clearing a packed schedule, calming breaks, quick check‑ins with the right professionals - all these small actions can add up to a greater sense of wellbeing.

And yes, a little bit of laughter counts as therapy, (side effects include snorts).

We’re looking for recommendations for training providers who offer good-quality education on Islam for support workers.

We want to ensure our support team can respectfully and confidently support a young man who is Muslim, with a clear understanding of his religious beliefs, practices, and cultural needs. This includes areas such as prayer, diet, festivals, personal care, and day-to-day respectful support.

If you’ve used a provider, course, trainer, or even helpful resources you would recommend, please comment below or message us directly. Thank you in advance.
