After many years of litigation, our client has finally moved into his forever home ! It's a space thoughtfully adapted to meet his individual needs and reflect who he is.

Every room includes a subtle touch of pink, a personal detail that brings warmth and personality into the design.

Now that he’s settled, we’re looking forward to helping him plan a well deserved housewarming and the next chapter of his independence.

Some AMAZING news to kick off the week! A huge congratulations to our incredible client who achieved 2nd place at the National British Cycling Championships last Saturday in the Men’s Para B Sprint! 🚴‍♂️🥈

Competing at the highest level at the British National Track Championships, he delivered an outstanding performance in the Men’s Para B category, an achievement that really reflects his extraordinary dedication, resilience, and strength.

Following a brain injury that left him visually impaired, his journey back to elite competition has been nothing short of inspiring. His determination and commitment are felt by all of us here at Beacon, and we are immensely proud to support him.

Congratulations on an incredible achievement! We’re all behind you! 👏

⭐ MEET REBECCA SMITH ⭐

1. What’s something you genuinely look forward to at the end of a busy week?

Friday film night with my children, then a glass of wine and a good documentary once they have gone to bed.

2. If you could instantly become an expert in any skill (serious or silly), what would you choose and why?

To be able to sing! I love it, but my enthusiasm definitely outweighs my talent

3. What’s a small joy or simple pleasure that never fails to make your day better?

10 minutes of quiet with a brew before my whole house wakes up.

4. Which place — near or far — feels like your “happy place,” and what makes it special to you?

I'd probably say Mexico as I've had lots of happy moments there, including getting engaged there, so it always feels like a pocket of happiness. Also, the food, culture, and atmosphere make it somewhere I associate with feeling happy and relaxed.

5. What food, drink, or treat is your ultimate comfort go to, no matter the occasion?

Pick and mix!

6. If you could meet any person from history (living or dead, real or fictional) who would it be and why?

Robin Williams - takes me back to watching all my favourite childhood films.

7. What do you love about your job?

The variety, no two days are the same, and getting to know my clients and see them achieve their goals.

8. What’s your pet hate? Don’t hold back 😊

At work - being disturbed when I am in the flow of something.

At home - It's got to be putting the washing away, I can cope with washing and drying it but putting it away feels like a never ending task!

Communication can be profoundly affected after an ABI. In this video, Catherine Davies of SLT for Life explains how cognitive‑communication difficulties can influence speaking, understanding, reading and writing, and how targeted therapy can help rebuild these essential skills.

As Case Managers, we see how communication challenges can impact confidence, relationships and independence. SLTs like Catherine help us create environments where clients feel heard, understood and supported as they regain their voice.

What a fantastic team building day! 🎉

Yesterday we took part in Insights Training, exploring different working styles, strengthening communication, and building even stronger connections across the team.

A great mix of learning, collaboration, and a few laughs along the way — we’re excited to put our new insights into action!

This month we’re celebrating LGBT+ History Month - with a reminder that safe conversations really can change trajectories. Inclusive case management isn’t optional, it’s professional!

At Beacon, we always respect our clients' identities and protect their privacy. We shape care around the person, not the paperwork.

One of Sophie's long-term clients has recently been assessed as having regained financial capacity. This is a HUGE achievement after 14 years of steady work, growth, and collaboration.

Sophie's role now is to support her client as she adjusts to a new level of independence. It’s a privilege to walk alongside someone through such meaningful change!!

Neuropsychiatry helps us understand the complex relationship between brain injury and mental health. In this video, Dr Peter Marshall discusses how symptoms such as insomnia, fatigue, mood changes and difficulties with motivation can be assessed and treated through a combination of medication and therapeutic approaches.

As Case Managers, we value neuropsychiatrists for their ability to bring clarity to complex presentations. Their guidance helps us ensure clients receive safe, coordinated care that supports both stability and long‑term wellbeing.

🌟 Christy 🌟

1. What’s something you genuinely look forward to at the end of a busy week?

Saturday Parkrun or planning a longer run that fits around family time. I enjoy mapping out a route to wherever we’re going over the weekend and meeting my family there. It keeps me moving and helps clear my head after a busy week of planning, organising, and managing complex client work.

2. If you could instantly become an expert in any skill (serious or silly), what would you choose and why?

I'd love to be multilingual, or even just bilingual would do! Being able to pick up new languages when traveling would be really cool, I only ever seem to master a hello or thank you.

3. What’s a small joy or simple pleasure that never fails to make your day better?

Whenever I get a call from my support teams, office staff, or case managers just to talk through ideas or suggestions. Those conversations reinforce the positive working relationships we’ve built and remind me how strong our connections are. Open communication reassures me that I’m doing a good job as both a manager and a colleague.

4. Which place — near or far — feels like your “happy place,” and what makes it special to you?

Lyme Park in Cheshire- I've had many happy walks around Lyme Park with my young family- hot chocolates up at the Cage in the freezing cold always makes me feel happy.

5. What food, drink, or treat is your ultimate comfort go to, no matter the occasion?

Homemade rhubarb crumble with custard, or maybe cheese and crackers with grapes. 🍇 🧀

6. If you could meet any person from history (living or dead, real or fictional) who would it be and why?

Alison Hammond purely for the laughs and her infectious energy. I love watching her TV bloopers!

7. What do you love about your job?

The privilege of being part of someone's journey to recovery after an acquired brain injury. It’s such a personal journey, and I find real purpose in managing and coordinating the care and therapies that help people and their families rebuild their lives.

8. What’s your pet hate? Don’t hold back 😊

Alexa. She never listens when I need her. I swear some days she deliberately misunderstands me!

Nutrition is a powerful part of ABI recovery. In this video, Sian Riley of Red Pepper Nutrition explains how the right balance of nutrients can help support healing and stabilise energy levels. Good nutrition helps prevent secondary health issues too, such as obesity and cardiovascular disease.

As Case Managers, we often see how fatigue, appetite changes or cognitive challenges can affect our clients' eating habits. Dietitians like Sian help us create realistic, sustainable plans that support both physical health and emotional wellbeing.

We've had some amazing feedback that we just have to share with the world!

"It’s been so lovely joining Beacon, I don’t even know how to describe it. It opened a lot of doors for us, not just in terms of care, but everything. I’ve never had such an attentive case manager, and it worries me that I let it [previous service] go on for so long … I think because we didn’t know any different.

I always feel like I’ve got someone to talk to or I can just quickly email... it’s two people at the problem. It feels so nice, so refreshing. And I feel like [client] is finally paying for a service where it’s actually useful. And it’s so strange to say these things because, it should have been from the beginning [with previous service].

It’s like going from like below economy to go into first class. It feels like that honestly. It feels really, really good."

*****

A huge thank you to this support worker and many others who make such a difference to our clients' lives. What a team we are!
