Bolton Hospice

Bolton Hospice Providing expert care & support for the people of Bolton who have terminal and life-limiting illnesses, and their families.
(272)

We're an independent charity, and our services are free. Our team of doctors, nurses and other professional staff provide specialist care and support for local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families, in the hospice and at home. We provide care throughout a patient’s illness, so they achieve the best possible quality of life. This includes end of life care, helping them to achieve a good death. We're a charity mainly funded by local people. Together we need to raise around £4 million a year to continue to provide our services for free.

What’s just New Year's Day for some, marks the day of a huge fundraising challenge for Jack, in memory of his friend Peter who was cared for at Bolton Hospice 👇

"Peter & I became friends at work. We both shared an interest in hiking so started hiking and wild camping together. When Peter became unwell and was eventually diagnosed with bladder cancer, I went to treatments with him at the Christie. He also underwent an operation, and after he started to recover, we began to hike and camp again.

"Some time later Peter started to have other symptoms and pain, and it became clear his battle with cancer wasn't over.

"Peter was transferred to a ward and then to the hospice. I remember the first day I visited Peter at the hospice. He was sat up watching YouTube videos on hiking. He looked happier and more relaxed than I had seen him in weeks.

"Over the following four weeks until Peter passed away peacefully with his family by his side, everyone at the hospice from the kind & helpful reception staff, the spiritual care lead , the nursing & care staff & the doctors, the volunteers…everyone, were so kind and helpful and understanding and genuine.

"Peter & I discussed me doing this ride early in his stay. So, New Year’s Day, I’ll ride from the door of the offices where we worked to Bolton Hospice. I'll take a route that meanders through the forested areas and river & canal sides he would appreciate, and listen to the music he loved. That would make him smile as we had very different music tastes!

"All just a small thank you for everything you did for Peter & his wife & family and friends."

A huge thank you to Jack, we hope you enjoy the special ride in memory of your friend 💜

Happy New Year! 🎆

As we head into 2026, we thought it would be a good time to tease how you can get involved this year, and continue to help us care for local people facing life-limiting illnesses 💜

We'll be sharing lots more information about each of these challenges, events and appeals throughout the year, but for now, zoom in, and get excited for what promises to be an exciting year of raising vital funds!

If you're not already following us, there's never been a better time to hit the follow button and never miss our heartwarming stories, behind the scenes glimpses, and opportunities to show your support - thank you!

As 2025 draws to an end, we'd like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported Bolton Hospice this year, helping our patients and their loved ones create lasting memories together 💜

Whether you joined us for a fantastically foamy Bubble Rush, popped some spare change into a loose change tin, or gifted your time at the hospice or in our shops. Took on your own epic challenge, sponsored your favourite couple at Strictly, played our lottery, and everything in between...

However you've got involved this year, you've made a real difference to local families facing life-limiting illnesses.

From everyone here at Bolton Hospice, thank you!

We hope all of the schools who took part in this year's Reindeer Run had a fantastically festive time putting the fun in fundraising!

This year over 10,000 nursery and primary school pupils donned their reindeer antlers across 38 schools - a record turnout of young Rudolphs 🦌

School fundraising events are a brilliant way of getting the next generation involved in supporting local people facing life-limiting illnesses, and we're excited to be launching an Easter-themed 'Bunny Hop' in 2026! Teachers, keep your eyes peeled for more details 👀

Feeling guilty about unwanted Christmas gifts? We can turn your unwanted Christmas gifts, bottles or chocolate into vital funds that support patients and families when they need it most. Every donation - big or small - helps provide comfort, care, and compassion.

If you’re having a post‑Christmas clear‑out, we’d love to give your unwanted items a new purpose. Drop them off at the hospice and make a real difference this New Year 💜

Today we're wishing a HUGE congratulations to Daniel and his soon-to-be-wife Amy, for raising over £1000 for Bolton Hospice in the run up to their big day 💒

Daniel took the 'run up' to his wedding day quite literally, deciding to run the full 79.1km distance between his home and wedding venue from the 1st to 30th December 🏃‍♂️

The happy couple decided to use Daniel's feat to raise money for a charity, and after asking all his groomsmen, each one chose the hospice as many have had experiences of our vital care and support 💜

Everyone at Bolton Hospice would like to pass on their thanks and congratulations to Daniel and Amy - we hope you have the most special day today 🤵👰
