The ☀️ is out! Even if it’s only temporary - here are some tips to keep those eyes healthy!
Remember, it doesn’t have to be hot for the sun to damage your eyes.
☑️ Wear sunglasses with UV protection
Sunglasses are more than just a fashion accessory, they’re fundamental for help to protect eyes from UV rays. Choose a good pair and not just on sunny days, the UV rays are present even during dull cloudy days too!
☑️ Reduce screen time
We know it’s not always that easy, but make sure you’re giving your eyes a rest if you stare at a screen all day. Try taking a break for 15 minutes every 2 hours (even closing them to maintain moisture).
☑️ Stay hydrated
As the sun gets stronger it’s likely you’ll get dehydrated quicker. Remember to drink plenty of water through the day as hydration is crucial for eye health. It supports tear production, keeps the eyes lubricated and helps prevent dryness and irritation.
☑️ Eat & sleep well
Proper nutrition is also essential for healthy and clear vision. Food and drink plentiful in Vitamin C, E and zinc, can help oppose macular degeneration and different indications or eye damage. Try eating eggs, meat, legumes or nuts for a high intake of zinc!
On top of that make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep, as just like the rest of your body - your eyes need a proper rest and recharge.
☑️ Wear a hat
Along with sunglasses, a hat is an excellent way to keep the sunlight out of your eyes providing another layer of protection. It can also help prevent dehydration. (Plus you get to style both together).
☑️ Quit smoking
There’s never a bad time to quit - but why not make it this year? Smoking can not only cause irritation and dryness to your eyes it can cause cataracts.
☑️ Use eye drops
Eye drops aren’t only for when you’ve got irritated eyes; they are a fantastic way to add an extra layer of hydration to your eyes all year round, especially when the ☀️ is shining.
