Although it's not always that well known, forest school ethos is underpinned by following principles of child development - not least the fact that children up until the age of 7 mainly learn through play. Continuous provision up to year 2 in mainstream schools doesn't hinder academic progress, it means that children are far more holistically developed, and far more able to do maths and English etc because their brains are more fully developed.
