Have you heard about the Government’s SEND White Paper but aren’t sure what it means for your child? 💭

The White Paper sets out proposals aimed at improving early support, consistency and accountability in SEND provision.

While policy takes time to embed, the focus remains the same: helping children receive the right support at the right time.

We’ve shared a clear summary of the White Paper and what it may mean in practice for schools and families.

Does your child say they miss their friends or enjoy learning, but still struggle to get through the school day?

Many children with attendance difficulties genuinely want to go to school. They may talk about missing friends, liking lessons or feeling upset that they cannot manage right now.

Anxiety or unmet needs can make coping feel harder on some days than others, even when a child wants to attend. 😔

It can help to notice and name this with your child. Letting them know it makes sense that some days feel harder can reduce pressure and build trust. 💖

When children feel understood and supported, confidence can start to grow again.

📣 Do you want a career where you can make a real difference to children and families?

One of our Education Welfare Officers recently shared this:

“There’s no prouder moment than seeing children take those first steps back into school and grow into happier, more confident people.”

👀 Opportunities within our team focus on support, understanding and advocacy. We work closely with families to understand why school feels hard and help them find the right support, always putting the child first.

It is not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding work for people who care deeply about inclusion and early support.

If you are exploring your next step and want to use your skills to support children and families, we would love you to hear from you.

Does your child’s behaviour ever feel misunderstood? 😔

Big reactions, withdrawal or difficulty following instructions can be signs that something feels hard or overwhelming for a child, not that they are being difficult.

A helpful shift can be to wonder, “What might this be telling us?” rather than focusing only on stopping the behaviour. This can open the door to understanding what support might actually help.

When children feel understood, they are more likely to feel safe, supported and able to cope with everyday challenges. 💫

If this feels familiar, it may be helpful to explore what clearer understanding could look like for your child.

In her latest piece, Emma Sanderson, Managing Director of Momenta Connect, reflects on the growing focus on attendance and the assumptions often made about missed schooling and future outcomes.

💡 In the article, Emma explores:
• Why attendance data matters, but rarely tells the whole story
• The complex reasons behind persistent absence
• Why long term outcome statistics need careful interpretation
• How attendance is most effectively supported when it sits alongside pastoral support, inclusion and strong relationships with families

A thoughtful read for parents, carers and professionals who want to better understand what sits behind attendance figures and how children can be supported to stay connected to education.

🤔 Does your child get described as lazy, disruptive or inattentive, but it never feels quite right?

When difficulties with focus, communication or regulation are misunderstood, children can begin to feel blamed for things that are not within their control. Over time, this can affect confidence, wellbeing and engagement with learning.

🤗 Understanding a child’s needs helps adults respond with the right support, rather than the wrong expectations.

Clarity helps children feel understood, supported and able to show who they really are.

Sometimes, understanding what is going on can bring relief.

Many families begin to notice patterns over time. Overwhelm, anxiety, shutdown or growing difficulty with school. It can be hard to know what is behind it or what to do next.

For families exploring autism or ADHD, waiting for clarity can feel long and isolating. NHS waiting times are often around 18 months, but support does not have to wait. 💛

Our assessments are available from age 4, with no GP referral needed. Appointments are offered online or through nationwide clinical hubs, so families can access support in a way that works for them.

Does your child’s attendance change depending on how safe or settled they feel? 🤔

One helpful thing to know is that attendance difficulties often show up before a child can explain what feels hard.

Noticing these patterns can help you respond sooner. Asking what feels hardest about the day, or which part causes the most worry, can give you valuable clues about what support might help.

When difficulties are recognised early and met with understanding, children are more likely to feel safe, supported and able to engage again. 🤗

If this sounds familiar, support is available.
