Last weekend saw the first round of the National series in the big shed. Saw some good results coming through after making some changes over the winter which was good to see. 7th and a 3rd for rounds 1&2. On to Glasgow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in May.

Slowed this right down so you can see what’s really happening 👀

Notice the knee dropping inward on BOTH take-off and landing 🚨
This is knee valgus — and it’s not just a “weak glute med” issue.

What you’re actually seeing is a breakdown in control across the whole chain:
➡️ Hip: not controlling internal rotation + adduction
➡️ Knee: collapsing inward under load
➡️ Foot/ankle: often rolling in, driving the movement from below

On take-off 👉 poor control of the femur as force is produced
On landing 👉 poor ability to absorb force and control alignment

💡 The key point:
This is a coordination + control problem, not just strength.

The knee is just where it shows up — not where it starts.

Train the system:
✔️ Hip stability
✔️ Foot/ankle control
✔️ Single-leg strength
✔️ Landing mechanics

Get this right = better force transfer, better performance, lower injury risk 👊

Knee pain that keeps coming back?
It’s usually not just “bad knees” — it’s how you’re moving.

These are 3 mistakes I see all the time:

knees collapsing in during squats
overstriding when running
skipping a proper warm up

Fix those, and you often reduce stress on the knee straight away.

If your knee pain isn’t improving, you probably need to fix the cause — not just rest it.

Save this for your next session 👍

Let me reintroduce myself 👋

I’m Oliver Cope, a Sports Therapist based at Injury Mechanics.

I work with anyone and everyone, but naturally a lot of sporting and active people who want to move better, train harder and stay pain free.

My goal isn’t just to treat pain — it’s to help the body rebuild stronger and give you the knowledge behind why the injury happened in the first place.

My journey into this industry actually started through BMX racing.

Competing at a high level meant a lot of crashes and injuries, which made me fascinated by how the body recovers, adapts and rebuilds itself. That curiosity eventually led me into studying sports therapy and turning it into my career.

My approach focuses on finding and fixing the root cause, not just chasing symptoms.

Being an athlete myself means I understand the demands of training and competition, so I combine:

• Hands-on therapy
• Movement analysis
• Strength-based rehab

to help people move better, recover faster and perform at their best.

Outside the clinic you’ll usually find me:

🚴 BMX racing
🏊 Swimming (occasionally)
🚴‍♂️ Road cycling (fair weather of course)
🏋️ In a gym (love/hate relationship)

Muscle testing 👇

It’s not just “hold it there.”

I’m assessing:
• How well the muscle switches on
• Strength under load
• Control through range
• Pain response
• Side-to-side differences

Sometimes weakness isn’t true weakness.
It can be inhibition, fatigue, or the body protecting something else.

Assessment first.
Then the right plan.

Test → Identify → Build.
