Just a reminder that since 10 November 2025, Bolton GP Federation has been delivering this year’s Winter Surge Hub at the Health Hive, providing additional capacity to support GP practices and the wider health system during the busy winter period.

The hub is operating from The Bolton Primary Care Hub, home of the Health Hive, Chorley Street, Bolton, BL1 4AL, running Monday to Saturday through until 6, April 2026.

Appointments are booked through patients’ own GP practices, ensuring a seamless experience for both practices and patients. This is another way we are working
to support primary care services and Bolton people during the winter months.

Brave the big talk - The theme for Mind 'Time to Talk' day this year is to brave the big talk and have conversations about mental health experiences that might still feel a bit unspoken. We’ve made great progress in destigmatising mental health problems and improving attitudes. But we need to keep going. There are still times when what we are living through can feel really big and difficult to talk about.

Supporting The World Cancer Day theme 2025-2027, “United by Unique” places people at the centre of care and explores new ways of making a difference.

Cancer is more than just a medical diagnosis—it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story - stories of grief, pain, healing, resilience, love and more.

That’s why a people-centred approach to cancer care that fully integrates each individual’s unique needs, with compassion and empathy, leads to the best health outcomes.

Every experience with cancer is unique and it will take all of us, united, to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient. A world where the needs of people and communities are at the centre of health systems.

Join us on 4 February and help us make a difference. Click here for more information...https://www.worldcancerday.org/about

🚑 Important update for Bolton patients attending A&E
If you’re registered with a Bolton GP and attend A&E at Royal Bolton Hospital with a minor illness, you may now be offered a same-day GP appointment, directed to a local pharmacy, or signposted to the right local service.

This new pilot, delivered by Bolton GP Federation in partnership with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, helps make sure patients get the right care, in the right place, at the right time – while keeping A&E available for emergencies.

👉 Anyone who needs urgent or emergency care will always still be seen in A&E.

For non-urgent health issues:
✔️ Contact your GP
✔️ Visit a community pharmacy
✔️ Use NHS 111 for advice

Our Story

The fundamental idea behind Federating is that new challenges are best tackled and managed together Primary care is central to the health and wellbeing of patients and their carer’s and the wider community. We already see in this current climate and times and its importance will grow as more people with complex health needs receive care in the community. To meet these needs, GP’s have to reshape and transform their services, achieving economies of scale while recognising that patients prefer to deal with small, local practices. Bolton GPs want to offer a greater range of services, continuity of care, longer consultations and longer opening hours, however to create the sustainable operating models that will facilitate clinical excellence and good person-centred care , a collective approach to developing a borough wide federation has been a crucial step forward. The Bolton Federation will aim to: *Develop robust partnerships and collective roll out of programmes with the statutory, Business, Third and community sector. *Strengthening the capacity to develop new services out of hospital *To form an entity that can tender for services offered by the CCG, the Local Authority and other commissioners *To make efficiency savings/economies of scale, for example in back office functions or the procurement of practice services *To improve local service integration across practices and other providers *To enhance the capacity of practices to compete with external private sector companies *To strengthen clinical governance and improve the quality and safety of services *To develop training and education capacity In conclusion, with the above aims and aspirations a Bolton GP Federation has been set up.
