Michelle Norton-Hughes BSc (Hons) MCSP HCPC
Michelle is a experienced physiotherapist with 14 years of practice she aims to help you recover from your injury, whether that be getting back to competitive sports, recovering from surgery, improving your performance in sport, adapting with disability, helping you manage pelvic pain through pregnancy, resolve pelvic floor incontinence dysfunctions, or deal with those every day aches and pains from a day in the office. Prior to her private practice she works part time as a clinical lead physiotherapist for the military based at Winchester. She worked been working for the military for 10years after having qualified from Southampton University in 2007. Post qualifications Michelle completed her rotations within the NHS and along side this gained further experience in sports physiotherapy working 5 seasons at Chelsea Football Club. Her experience has included working at Headley Court with Complex Trauma patients progressing their rehabilitation to restore function. Her proudest achievement has been training these service personnel to get from post-operative state to a level of fitness enabling them to compete in competitive sports including Ironman Triatholon. She has competed in Ironman triathlons herself and whilst at Headley Court was a founding member of the triathlon club “Team True Spirit’. She continues to volunteer for the team which has since gone on to become part of the Help for Heroes Charity. Some of Michelle’s patients have gone on to pursue a career in athletics representing GB at the Paralympic Games. Michelle’s experience lead her to investigate the influences the pelvic floor has on common MSK injuries. She feels it is a “fundamental area of MSK rehabilitation which is often missed in general clinical practice”. She has developed her knowledge in this area by attended courses and is an ante and post natal (APPI) pilates instructor. Michelle is enhancing her knowledge further by undertaking extensive postgraduate study with the aim to complete this within the next few years to reach the recognised standard of excellence in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy - Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP). Members of the MACP are recognised internationally in providing an excellent standard of care in examination, treatment and management for people with neuromusculoskeletal problems.
