It is important to understand how to analyse, interpret medical and surgical notes and how to pick up the key words that need to be coded.

It may not be easy for the Trainees to do just that, just yet. They need to learn what to look for while reading patient's scenarios. So, it would be a good idea to build one's own personal medical knowledge database that would include conditions treated, their symptoms and surgical procedures performed, supplemented by most frequently used terminology and anatomy illustrations. This knowledge database will steadily grow while you progress in your learning.
