I'm a Family & Funeral Celebrant based near Sevenoaks, Maidstone & Tonbridge. I want the ceremonies I lead to be compassionate, creative, meaningful, and human.

My name is Ian, and I’m a Funeral and Family Celebrant based in the north-west of Kent – in a village that sits between Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, and Maidstone. I live with my husband, Philip, and our very lively fox-red Labrador, Ripley, who keeps us both very much on our toes! As a Celebrant my aim is to create bespoke ceremonies that truly reflect my clients, and their loved ones, as traditional or non-traditional as you would like. I aim to support my clients every step of the way. In my earlier life I became a lay preacher for the Methodist Church and spent two years in theological college, and am very happy to include and lead religious or spiritual content within a ceremony if that is something you would like. A good celebrant is someone who can hear a person’s story and create a ceremony that truly reflects them. Someone who empowers you to mark a significant moment in your life in a truly unique way – whether that be the joys of a wedding, a naming ceremony, or the sadness of a funeral. It is someone who has compassion, creativity, and is attentive to your needs. This is the celebrant I aim to be; focused on you, on your family, on your loved ones. Listening to your stories and creating unique ceremonies that mark the significant moments in your life. Sometimes in joy, sometimes in sorrow, but always together.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been busy leading celebration of life ceremonies for some very special people. It’s always an honour to be there for families, to learn about their loved ones, and to help them celebrate a life so well lived.

Today I was at Thamesview to lead a Celebration of Life ceremony for a gentleman whose love for his family was everything, and they were such a testament to the wonderful man he was.

It was an honour to meet them and tell his story.

Yesterday I had the honour to lead a Celebration of Life at Bluebell Crematorium - and the bluebells were all out in the woods around the chapel.

The ceremony was one of the happiest I’ve ever experienced. The gentleman who’d passed away was a big character with a big laugh and his Celebration of Life reflected that in every way.

I received a lovely email from the widow of a gentleman whose Celebration of Life I led last week. As I was a bit under the weather on the day I was concerned I hadn't given them my very best, but - as you can see - I had nothing to worry about.

Lovely ceremony today for a gentleman who was clearly so loved and respected by so many.

Today I had the honour of leading a Celebration of Life for a lady whose story was one of strength through adversity, care for her family, ci******es, and a glass of wine with a splash of lemonade. A real character and an absolute treasure to all who knew and loved her.

On what was a very wet and windy day today I had the utter privilege of leading a Celebration of Life for a lady who truly lived life to the full. She had a life enriched by her love of nature, of learning, of her family, and of creativity.

It was a wonderful turnout for her too, including the choir to whom she belonged. They beautifully sang "There Will Be Sun" which, given the weather, was entirely appropriate!

I came away thinking about the message of the film "Dead Poets Society" - Carpe Diem, "sieze the day".

A truly inspiring lady.

Gorgeous dappled willow at Bluebell Crematorium yesterday, where we gathered to say farewell to an incredibly well-loved man; someone I am proud to have called a friend, and someone who will be so very missed in our community. But a life so very - very - well lived.
