๐ง Ever feel calm and connected one moment, but anxious or shut down the next? Thatโs your nervous system at work! ๐ฟ ๐
According to Polyvagal Theory, our bodies shift between three states:
๐ Safe & Social (Ventral Vagal) โ When we feel secure, we thrive! We connect, think clearly, and feel joy. This is the "window of tolerance" where healing happens.
๐ฅ Fight or Flight (Sympathetic Nervous System) โ When we sense danger, our body mobilises. This can look like anxiety, anger, or restlessness. If we stay stuck here, we may feel constantly on edge.
โ๏ธ Freeze (Dorsal Vagal) โ When stress overwhelms us, our system shuts down to protect us. We may feel numb, fatigued, or disconnected from the world.
โจ The good news? You can train your nervous system to spend more time in the safe & social stateโhelping you heal both emotionally and physically.
๐ก Small steps like deep breathing, gentle movement, and self-compassion can help regulate your system.
Your body isnโt brokenโitโs just trying to keep you safe. Learning how your nervous system works is empowering and a crucial step in the mind-body healing journey. ๐
