One of our Orthoptists is attending BIPOSA 2025 conference today.
(British & Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Association)
Lots of interesting and promising research was presented, as well as knowledge shared from professionals across the world.

As HCPC registered clinicians, it's important we keep up with professional development via events like this to maintain our registration and to continually bring the best evidence-based care to our patients.

Some equipment you might recognise from your Orthoptic appointment 👁👁

🔍 prism bar: multiple uses including measuring the size of squints

🔍 occluder: used to cover one eye during eye alignment examination

🔍 pen torch: multiple uses including assessing eye movements and pupil reactions

🔍 fixation target: pictures on one side, letters and numbers on the other. Used for near fixation during eye alignment assessment.

🔍 handheld occluder: the patient holds this to cover one eye during vision testing.
