If your body was a tree what would it be like?
If you could draw an outline of your body what would it look like?
Does that emotion have a colour or a texture?
How will you know when you are feeling less stressed?
Is there a flower, book, place, film, piece of music you turn to for comfort?
Can you feel your shoulder or leg on the couch?

These are some of the seemingly strange questions you may be asked during a Craniosacral session. In Craniosacral therapy we work with the felt sense, of how things feel, in our bodies. In times of chronic overwhelm and stress we have a tendancy to be in our heads and not in our bodies. But it is in our bodies that we can begin to find safety and then our heads can begin to quieten. Some people describe having CST as a chance to come home to their body. By bringing awareness and cultivating a felt sense of our bodies we can begin to regulate our nervous system and in turn be better able to deal with life.

Today, if my body was a tree it would be an oak tree, tall and grounded, maybe a little unwieldy. What about you?

I loved this positive news article from Michela Haas' Reasons to Be Cheerful. It arrives in my inbox every month and I always carve out time to read it.

Martin Wikelski, author of The Internet of Animals, is the innovator behind a global vision, decades in the making, that could change animal research and conservation forever: ICARUS (the International Cooperation for Animal Research Using Space) equips creatures from bats and birds to goats and giraffes with lightweight smart tags that beam data to satellites and CubeSats — smaller satellites the size of a shoe box — revealing real-time insights into animals’ rhythms. Various alerts on Max Planck Institute’s open-source analysis platform MoveApps help Wikelski’s teams monitor anything from Etna eruptions to earthquakes, rhino poachers and stork deaths.

"Biologists now want to understand the vast wealth of invisible knowledge animals have that emerges only when we analyze their interactions with each other and with their environment.”

Animals have so much wisdom to offer us, particularly as perhaps as humans our own primal instincts have been somewhat muted as we have become less immersed in the natural world around us.

I use nature a lot in my Biodynamic Craniosacral work, feeling into a sense of connection with life around and within us, the sparks of ignition and growth that every living cell experiences, the essence of life itself. And I find both solace and hope by immersing myself in nature, connecting into the rythyms and tides of life, and finding joy and awe in the world around me, that I am part of. We are not seperate from nature. We are nature.

What wisdom does the natural world offer you?

"In a world where you can be anything, be kind"

Tomorrow is World Kindness Day - a global day for promoting kindness and compassion. It's celebrated by individuals, communities, and organizations through events, simple acts of kindness, and awareness campaigns. The day was initiated in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement encouraging people to make kindness the norm not the exception.

What act of kindness could you do today? For yourself, for someone you love, for a stranger?
The beauty of kindness is that it doesn't have to cost a penny yet could be utterly life changing for someone. And we all feel better for being kind to ourselves and to others.

Smile at everyone you come across
Open doors, help with bags
Volunteer with your time
Make time to speak to someone who is lonely
Look after wildlife and nature, pick litter, feed the birds, make a bug home
Share an uplifting post
Let someone know you appreciate them and why
Leave a positive review for a local business or service provider
Pledge to make kindness the norm every single day, not just on November 13th

There are lots of ideas about kindness on https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/

What type of scar will likely benefit from having ScarWork therapy?

The simple answer is pretty much any scar which hasn't healed as well as it could. The body is an amazing organism and it's own natural healing process means that many, if not most, scars will heal perfectly well on their own without any other intervention.

However, some scars can benefit from an additional helping hand such as:

* Widespread, multiple or large scars
* Scars that have been re-opened for additional surgery
* Scars where infections have occurred
* Scars which are left raised or bumpy or puckered or uneven or dark in colour
* Scars where you may feel a restriction or a tightness on or around the scar
* Scars left with an unwelcome sensation or numbness
* Scars which have a difficult or unhelpful emotion associated with them
* Seemingly ok scars but where other physical issues may have arisen since such as digestive issues, back, neck or hip pain, headaches

There are a few situations where ScarWork is not suitable including:
* Scars that are open, infected or weeping
* Keloid scars (scars which keep growing)
* Incidence of lymphoedema which requires specialist management
* Where the skin or person is very frail

I invite everyone who comes for ScarWork to have a 15 minute free phone or video consultation before booking an appointment so I can advise you of the suitability of treatment.

Please get in touch if you'd like to know more or to book an appointment. I am based in Amber Hill, near Boston

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) and how can it help me?

BCST is a gentle light touch fully clothed therapy in which I make light contact and listen into your body and its systems, particularly your nervous system. It’s like a joint meditation and by tuning into your nervous system it helps to find balance, to return to rest and digest, and when our bodies are in this state, called the parasympathetic nervous system, they can begin to heal, reorganise and return to health. Clients often experience a sense of wellbeing, lightness and clarity following a session.

It is particularly good for conditions that may be related in some way to stress and or trauma, whether that be physical or emotional/mental conditions. In my clinic I have helped practice clients find some ease with migraines, multiple sclerosis, endometriosis, anxiety and stress, depression, grief, insomnia, IBS, tinnitus, back problems and joint issues.

Clients who have regular sessions say they begin to see the benefits spill out into their everyday lives. Able to be more present, find moments of stillness and feel more connected to their body. What’s not to like about that?!

If you’d like to find out more please get in touch. I offer a 15 minute free no obligation Resonance call for you to explore how BCST might be able to help you find ease.

I'm based in Amber Hill near Boston.

No-vember is a great time to let go of and say no to the things that no longer serve us. With the falling of the leaves, we are reminded to let go and hunker down for winter in preparation for new growth in the spring.

What might you say no to this month?

Some ideas might be...

Say NO to always putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own
Say NO to clutter
Say NO to accepting less than you deserve
Say NO to impulse shopping
Say NO to unhealthy food choices
Say NO to perfectionism
Say NO to social injustice
Say NO to negative self talk
Say NO to events you don't want to go to
Say NO to wastefulness
Say NO to constantly comparing your life/progress/self to someone else
Say NO to taking on more than you should (spreading yourself too thin)
Say NO to always looking at your phone and missing out on the world around you
Say NO to caring too much about what other people think
Say NO to being too busy to enjoy the little things in life

It's not always easy to say no, so start with something small and see what happens!

Finding places of safety - where might yours be?

I've been talking to clients a lot recently about safety and where we might find it. And what I mean by safety is a thing or place you can do or be which soothes your soul, brings you solace, gives you hope, makes things easier in your life to bear.

For me it's the garden, and even more specifically weeding in the back garden, mowing the lawn just doesn't cut it (did you see what I did there?!) If I'm ever feeling unsettled, out of sorts, mulling over a problem I find that spending some time with the soil gives me headspace, comfort, hope for new growth and invariably I'll come back indoors feeling a bit better.

Much of my Biodynamic Craniosacral (BCST) work is about helping clients find safety and ease, primarily in their bodies which we call an internal resource. Being aware of and making use of our external resources, such as places or things, is also an important contribution in finding safety and ease.

Please get in touch if you'd like to explore how BCST might help you find safety and ease

This month in Action for Happiness the theme is New Ways November where we explore ways to be curious and open to new experiences. Embracing opportunities to try something different or learn something new fuels our wellbeing. It can boost our confidence and our creativity, helping our lives feel richer and more fulfilling.

There are lots of great ideas on the calendar on how you might try embracing opportunites to try something different.

With the darker evenings upon us now I'm committing to trying some new crafts in November - trying something different and making the most of the shorter hours of daylight.

What will you try or learn this month?

Our nervous system matters when it comes to healing. Our bodies have their own innate wisdom and intelligence which will always be trying to achieve balance and to heal and restore. However when our nervous system's fight or flight response is dialed right up, when we are in a state of hyper vigilance, unable to switch off or relax the priority for our body is not rejuvenation and healing, but instead survival. Healing, restoration, digestion, reproduction are put on the back burner as they’re not deemed critical in the current quest for survival.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can be a really useful tool in helping regulate the nervous system, dialing down the fight or flight response, and dialing up the rest and digest setting. When our bodies feel safe they can begin to heal, restore, digest and create new life.

If you recognise yourself in survival mode and are struggling with emotional, physical or mental health maybe your nervous system could do with a helping hand in finding safety. BCST can be really useful in supporting you through a long term condition or series of mainstream medical treatment.

Please get in touch to find out more or book a free 15 minute resonance call to explore how BCST might help your nervous system.

Poetry Post

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death,
in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

by Rabindranath Tagore

This poem speaks to me of the journey of self discovery and connection to life itself that Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can help facilitate.

If you'd like to explore how you might experience the Stream of Life with this gentle yet deeply profound therapy please get in touch for a free 15 min no-obligation resonance call.

Having choice and inviting agency is a powerful way to feel safe and secure. In my clinic I work with clients, many for whom control over what happens to their body has been compromised, on regaining control and choice harbouring a sense of safety.

With this safety the body can relax and begin to restoring, rejuvenate, heal, balance with more ease. We work together with and for your body, not imposing or forcing or demanding. Just gentle light, negotiated touch.

This choice and agency begins before you even get on the couch - music or silence, warmth or coolness, light coverings or heavy coverings, seated or lying.

I’m proud that many of clients return because not only are they making progress but they feel safe.

If this style of therapy appeals to you, please get in contact to find out more.
