🐾 Feline Recovery Spotlight: Daisy’s Journey After FHNO Surgery 🐾
This beautiful girl Daisy recently had surgery to help her move more comfortably again. She was diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, a condition that affects the blood supply to the femoral head (the “ball” of the hip joint). This causes the bone to weaken and collapse, which can be really painful and make walking difficult.
To relieve her discomfort, Daisy’s vet performed a Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy (FHNO) — a procedure that removes the damaged part of the bone. Over time, her body will form a false joint made of muscle and soft tissue, allowing her to move freely without pain.
💪 Physiotherapy is a key part of Daisy’s recovery!
After FHNO surgery, it’s common for cats to feel hesitant about using their operated leg. Physiotherapy helps them rebuild strength, confidence, and mobility by:
✨ Encouraging gentle weight-bearing and limb use
✨ Improving flexibility and range of motion
✨ Strengthening the muscles around the hip
✨ Reducing discomfort through massage and soft tissue work
✨ Restoring balance and coordination
Daisy’s sessions have included massage, passive range of motion, and progressive strengthening exercises — and she’s already showing brilliant progress! She’s using her leg more confidently each week and enjoying her playtime again 🐱💚
With the right care, physiotherapy, and a bit of patience, cats like Daisy can make a full, happy recovery after FHNO surgery.

If your cat is recovering from surgery or struggling with mobility, physiotherapy can make a huge difference to their comfort, confidence, and quality of life.
