This time of year can be hard for SEN children especially…

The festive season often brings changes in routine, sensory overload, heightened expectations and lots of unpredictability. For some children, this can feel overwhelming rather than exciting.

Increased noise, lights, social demands and disrupted sleep can all impact emotional regulation, behaviour and anxiety levels, and that’s not a child ā€œbeing difficultā€, it’s a child communicating that things feel too much.

Sometimes the most supportive thing we can offer is to slow things down, keep things predictable.

šŸ’” Tip of the Week!

Behaviour is communication.

Before reacting, ask: what need isn't being met right now? Tiredness, sensory overload, frustration from lack of communication, a trigger...

Understanding always comes before change.

We have another Employee Of The Month! Emma!

We, and the children we care for are so grateful for all you do. Thank you ā˜ŗļø

Here’s what Emma had to say about working with us here at

1. What do you do on a daily basis at ICS?

I focus on bringing consistent, quality care to the young people I support. I like to feel after every shift I’ve made a difference to the children we support no matter how small, and try to make there time with us feel as normal as possible!

2. What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is witnessing the small, daily victories . Winning this award is amazing, but the real reward is seeing the children I work with achieve something they’ve been working on, or simply knowing I’ve helped make their day better or easier. I love building that trust and connection. When a child feels comfortable and confident because of the support I provide, that’s truly the highlight of my job.

3. What motivates you?

My biggest motivation is the resilience and potential of the children themselves. They inspire me every day, I also feel very motivated by the positive culture at ICS. Knowing we are all working together to achieve great outcomes for these young people pushes me to maintain high standards and finding ways to make a positive impact.

4. What advice would you give someone wanting to work in care?

I would tell them to come prepared with patience, and a great sense of humor, It’s a wonderful job, but it requires flexibility and energy. My advice is Always look to understand the child’s perspective—ask why they might be acting a certain way. And remember to look after yourself, because being consistent and positive for the children starts with being well yourself!

Festive crafts remind us how powerful creativity can be for connection, confidence & calm.
Our young people love getting hands-on with Christmas magic! Will you try this?

28/11/2025

This Black Friday, let's give differently...

While the world is filling trolleys and chasing deals, some children will be hoping simply for warmth, comfort and a gift that reminds them they matter.

This year we're inviting our community to join us in donating children's Christmas hampers, big or small, to help make a young person feel seen, valued and remembered this festive season.

Even one gift can change a Christmas.

Even one hamper can change a childhood memory.

If you'd like to donate, comment 'kindness' in the comments and we'll drop you a message with all the details.

LETS MAKE KINDNESS THE TREND THIS BLACK FRIDAY!

Employee of the Month: Desmond!

Thank you for all you do for our young people!

Here’s what Desmond had to say about his role with

What do you do at ICS?
I always arrive early to ensure smooth handovers and show respect to both our young people and my colleagues. My role focuses on delivering holistic, person-centred care, supporting young people in line with their care plans and advocating for their needs. I’m proactive in finding solutions, maintaining high standards in recording and communication, and always working collaboratively with management and the wider team.

What’s the best part of your job?
I love carrying out dynamic risk assessments to ensure each young person receives the right level of support. But honestly, my favourite moments are taking them out into the community and seeing them enjoy new experiences.

What motivates you?
The supportive, democratic culture at ICS really inspires me. Management are approachable, responsive, and genuinely care about staff wellbeing, from accommodation support to access to counselling and advice services. I also appreciate that ICS recognises and rewards our work fairly (and maybe this Carer of the Month should campaign for a pay rise! šŸ˜„).

What advice would you give to someone wanting to work in care?
Care isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. You need compassion, commitment, and courage to truly make a difference. If your heart’s in it, you’ll finish every shift knowing you’ve done something meaningful.

Thank you Desmond šŸ™šŸ¼

The smallest act, a smile, patience, help with a shoe lace, or reading a story can become life changing memories for children in care.

Our carers don’t just ā€˜look after children’ they help break generational trauma, provide dignity, encourage hope and make memories.

03/09/2025

Our team regularly comes together for group training sessions — sharing knowledge, building confidence, and growing stronger as a team. Every discussion, every question, and every new skill helps us provide the best possible care to the children and families we support šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

26/08/2025

Before any of our carers begin working with the children and families we support they take part in one of our induction training day. This is a short but powerful session designed to:

1. Welcome new team members into the ICS family and get to know you
2. Share our values and person-centred approach
3. Provide essential knowledge and practical skills to feel confident from day one

We know that a positive start leads to positive care — and that’s why we make sure our team are supported, prepared, and ready to make a difference.

Our next training day is in two weeks, if you’d like to be involved in this and start working with us please find our application form in our bio links. Or send us a message.

Because we know that when carers feel equipped and valued, the children we support thrive.
