It’s been quite the week at The CRUMBS Project, and what a brilliant week it has been. We are incredibly grateful that our trainees continue to access such meaningful experiences and that we are growing from strength to strength.

Here are just a few highlights:
• We had a fantastic salad masterclass led by Gary Kilminster and Ian Gibbs
• Our trainees engaged in an unforgettable “Kitchen Takeover” with the team at Boathouse Kitchen - including the chance to step aboard and experience service in a new setting (both behind the scenes and front of house)
• Trainee Daniella thrived on a trial shift at Water Lily Cafe
• We gave a warm welcome to Millie, our new Fundraising and Corporate Partnership Coordinator, who conquered her first van drive (to her own delight)!
• We continued preparations for next week’s Asian-inspired showcase

Congratulations to all our trainees who have represented themselves and CRUMBS so well this week :)

Today we were delighted to welcome Gary Kilminster and CRUMBS trustee, Ian Gibbs, who treated our trainees to an inspiring salad masterclass. Who knew making salad could be this much fun?!

Gary and Ian explored mayonnaise as a ‘mother sauce’, introducing the trainees to flavour profiles and demonstrating how a variety of delicious dressings can be created using mayo as a base.

A huge thank you to both Gary and Ian for spending their morning with us and sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm. What better way to start the week.

We’re delighted to announce that over £6,000 has been raised for The CRUMBS Project! 💙

This incredible total wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic support of the Hospital Caterers Association, the Brighton Rocks HCA Forum 2026, and Raj Foods Ltd.

Thank you all for your generosity, kindness, and commitment to making a real difference. We are so grateful 🙏

🌟 Bread‑Making Masterclass with Care South 🍞👨‍🍳

The brilliant Care South Chefs — Mark, Adam and Bert — delivered an incredible Masterclass in Bread Products last week!

From steamed Bao buns, to Cranberry & Orange Hot Cross Buns, and a delicious Tear & Share Tomato Bread, the session was packed with skills, flavours and fun.

Our trainees Scott, Ella and Emily were absolutely delighted to take part. They had a fantastic time working alongside the chefs, developing new techniques and gaining valuable hands‑on experience.

It was also a wonderful opportunity for Scott and Emily to meet the chefs ahead of starting their work placements at Care South — an exciting next step in their journey.

👏 A huge thank you to the Care South team for inspiring our trainees and giving them such a memorable learning experience!

We had an amazing day at The CRUMBS Project welcoming the talented Year 1 Academy Chefs from the Exclusive Collection! They joined our trainees in the kitchen for a fun and inspiring skills‑sharing session.

Our mixed teams created some incredible dishes:
🔥 Team 1: Breaking down a leg of lamb and turning it into spiced lamb kebabs with pickled red onion, cucumber raita & flatbreads
🍝 Team 2: Wild mushroom pasta agnolotti with a lemon–sage butter sauce
🍥 Team 3: Freshly baked Chelsea buns that didn’t last long!

Our trainees absolutely loved learning new skills and gaining insight from the visiting chefs. A big thank you to everyone involved — we hope to do it again soon!

🌟 Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026: Leading With Inclusion 🌟

As we mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16–20 March 2026), I’m reflecting on the pivotal role leadership plays in shaping environments where every individual can thrive. This global initiative — founded in 2018 to challenge stereotypes and celebrate the strengths of neurodivergent people — continues this year with a powerful shift from awareness to meaningful organisational action.

The 2026 programme is centred on practical change: equity‑focused leadership, universal design, and embedding neuroinclusion throughout the employee journey — from recruitment and onboarding to progression and day‑to‑day experience. These themes are designed to help organisations move from intention to implementation, ensuring that inclusion is not an annual conversation but a sustained commitment.

Neurodiversity embraces a wide range of thinking and learning styles — including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and more — each offering distinct strengths, creativity, and insight. Creating cultures where diverse minds flourish isn’t only about fairness; it strengthens teams, deepens problem‑solving, and enriches the communities we serve.

As a Head of Centre, I see daily the impact that psychologically safe, flexible environments have on both individuals and organisational performance. When we actively remove barriers, listen to lived experience, and design systems that enable people to succeed in their own way, we don’t just celebrate difference — we harness it.

This week is a timely reminder: leadership sets the tone. Inclusion is built through our decisions, our language, and our willingness to adapt. Let’s use this moment to continue building spaces where every colleague feels valued, understood, and empowered to contribute their best.

Our Story

Welcome to The Crumbs Project. We are non-profit organisation that works with adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues and stabilised addictions. Through a mix of practical skills learning and work experience we provide our trainees with the opportunity to build their confidence, learn new skills and lead a life of independence.

At Crumbs our trainees have the opportunity to develop skills in catering, hospitality, administration and housekeeping. Trainees usually undertake a two year training programme and then are supported into either paid or voluntary work placements.

To enable Crumbs to carry out the important work we do with vulnerable individuals we offer a variety of catering services across Dorset. Our team provides a range of hot and cold food services, as well as celebration cakes- ideal for business meetings, training, conferences, weddings, parties or other events. All our food is freshly prepared, cost effective, and well presented. We are able to cater for any dietary requirements and available weekdays, weekends and evenings. It's really easy to order and a free delivery service is also available locally.

For further information about our training and food services please contact the Crumbs team on 01202 519320 or email bakery@crumbs.org.uk
