LETāS TALK BIRTHING BALLSš
ā
This is our Birthease ball: first launched in 2005, it has stood the test of time and has helped support thousands of women throughout their pregnancies and beyondš But, as birthing ball specialists, we want to ensure you get the most out of your ball, so here are some tips that have helped our customers:
ā
1ļøā£SIZE MATTERSā our Birthease ball comes in 2 sizes depending on your height- 65cm for up to 5ā8 and 75cm for 5ā8 and over. (However, other factors such as leg length and body weight are also important, so take this as a guide!)
ā
2ļøā£PERSEVERE WITH INFLATIONā although it can be tempting to stop pumping when it reaches ball shape, it is really important to keep going until the ball reaches itās full size (it will get there!) We provide a measuring tape to help with this.
ā
3ļøā£SITTING POSITIONā the number 1 problem we see is under-inflating the ball so that the sitting position is wrong. Ideally, your hips should be raised slightly above your knees (8-10cm), which allows the weight of the baby to be brought forward, easing the pressure on your internal organs and back. Once youāve adjusted the ball to this optimal size, youāll find just how much more comfortable a ball can be compared to a sofa or chair!
ā
4ļøā£ALL THE USESā People often donāt realise the variety of uses a birthing ball has- as well as for comfort and fitness during pregnancy, it can be used for:
ā¢optimal foetal positioning in the weeks leading up to birthš¤°
ā¢comfort during contractions in labourš
ā¢trying different active birth positions when itās time to pushš¶š»
ā¢postnatal exercisesš¤øāāļø
We will address these further in future posts so stay tuned!š
