I am constantly reminding patients everyday to be mindful of their posture and one of the main ones which can cause neck pain and upper thoracic pain is holding and looking at your phone!

Here are some stats that I thought you might be interested in. With this picture below the head weight goes from about 5kg in the upright position to 27kg if not more, whilst looking down at your phone and that position in load puts stress on the neck and upper back which can arise to pain, stiffness, nerve pain!
I did the calculation and that is an increase of over 400% load!

An idea if you are sitting on the sofa looking at your phone think about putting a cushion on your lap and put your elbows on the cushion whilst holding the phone as that will decrease the load for your neck but also think about taking a break often at looking down at your phone.

A little warning to you all if you are coming to Maple Osteopathic Clinic the week beginning Monday 18th August to Saturday 23rd August that there will be some disruption to the car parking but there is plenty of parking around the back of the parade of shops.
