⚠️ With the rise of cheap online marketplaces (think sites like Temu, Shein and Wish) it’s important to remember that just because you can buy it doesn’t mean it’s safe for your little one.

🤔 Did you know?
Not all products sold on these platforms, and others like it, meet UK safety standards which could put your little one at risk of:
• Choking hazards from small, detachable parts.
• Toxic substances in toys, clothing, or accessories.
• Unsafe designs that don’t comply with UK guidelines.

✅ Here’s how to shop safely this Christmas:
- Buy from reputable brands. If something is cheap and seems to good to be true, it probably is.
- Be extra careful when buying toys for children under 3 as they are at greater risk from dangerous toys
- Look out for cheap copies of well-known brands
- Look for verified reviews from trusted sources
- Trust your instincts and if something seems unsafe, don’t let your child play with it
- Products displaying the UKCA or CE mark comply with UK or EU safety regulations
Your child’s safety matters most. While a bargain may save you a few pounds today, it could come at a much higher cost later. Shop carefully this Christmas and keep your little one safe.

🙏🏼

😞 Biting can be upsetting not only for the child who is bitten, but also for the parents of the child who bites other children.

👍 This is a great article which covers why children sometimes bite others, what parents can do to manage the behaviour, and when they should get further help.

🎄 It’s nearly that time of year again! Anyone else in denial?!

🎅 As we head into the Christmas season, remember this: social media is a highlight reel, not the full story. Don’t compare your real life, with its messy, beautiful, imperfect moments, to someone else’s perfectly curated squares.

🥰 All your children really want for Christmas is you and your time. Anything else is a bonus. 😘

👉 Did you know that following a few simple sleep steps can make a huge difference in reducing the risk of SIDS?

👶 Since the Back to Sleep campaign started in 1991, rates have dropped by over 84%!

Here are some practical tips:

💤 Back to Sleep: Always place your baby on their back in a safe space with a firm, flat mattress. Keep the crib or bassinet in your room.

🚭 Smoke-Free Zone: Don’t smoke during pregnancy and keep your baby away from smoke. Over a third of SIDS cases could be avoided if this is followed.

🛌 Safe Co-Sleeping: If you’re sharing a bed, avoid it if you’ve been drinking, are extremely tired, a smoker, or using drugs. Sleeping on sofas or armchairs with your baby is never safe.

🌡️ Keep Comfortable: Babies shouldn’t get too hot or cold. Keep the room around 16–20°C, avoid hats in bed, and check if your baby’s chest or neck feels too warm.

🤱🏼 Breastfeeding Benefits: If possible, breastfeed for at least 2 months as it can halve the risk of SIDS. The longer you continue, the more protection it offers.

🥶 Why do babies get cold so easily?

👶 Babies aren’t just small - they’re built differently:

🔹 They have thin skin and less fat:
Newborns have thin skin and very little of the fat that generates heat. This makes them lose heat quickly.

🔹 Immature nervous system:
The part of the brain that controls temperature isn’t fully developed in infants which means their body can’t adjust as efficiently to temperature changes through shivering or sweating.

🔹 They have high surface-area-to-volume ratio:
They lose heat faster than adults simply because there’s more surface area for heat to escape.

🔹 They have immature blood flow control:
Adults can constrict blood vessels in the skin to conserve heat, but infants’ vasoconstriction response (where the blood vessels narrow reducing blood flow near the surface of the skin to keep blood warm in the core of the body) is weak, so heat escapes more easily.

❄️ So make sure you wrap your baby up on these cold days ensuring they don’t get too hot. The best way to check if they are getting too warm is to check the temperature of their neck or chest and if it feels warm or clammy remove a layer. And remember, hats are just for outdoors. They should be removed once you’re inside 👍

🔹 Scarlet Fever is very infectious and can easily be spread to other people so if you think your child might have scarlet fever please keep them off school or nursery.

🔹 It's usually easily treated with antibiotics but as always, if you are concerned about your child, please trust your instincts and get advice from a medical professional as soon as possible if you feel your child is becoming more unwell.

🔹 If they are displaying the following symptoms please get medical advice as quickly as possible:

👉 Fever
👉 Severe muscle aches
👉 Localised muscle tenderness
👉 Redness at the site of a wound
👉 Unexplained vomiting or diarrhoea
