It's true, every young person deserves to be treated with kindness, to feel heard, supported and safe. If you know a young person who is struggling, our Childline service is there to support anyone under 19 in the UK with whatever they're facing, no problem is too big or too small. They can reach out to our counsellors on the phone, 0800 1111 or online at Childline.org.uk

Today, for World Diabetes Day, we’re sharing our Diabetes and Breastfeeding factsheet: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/factsheet/diabetes/

Published earlier this year, our factsheet covers the three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.

It includes information on:
🌟Diabetes symptoms
🌟Treatments compatible with breastfeeding (including lifestyle measures)
🌟Diabetes and pregnancy
🌟Bed sharing when you have diabetes

With the rise of diabetes medications being used for weight loss, we also want to highlight recent guidance from the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA):

“GLP-1 medicines should not be taken by people who are breastfeeding. There isn’t enough safety data to know whether these medicines could harm your baby. If you have concerns, speak to a healthcare professional.”

More details are available in our factsheet.

If you have questions about any medication while breastfeeding, our volunteer pharmacists are here to help - we aim to respond within 24 hours. Contact us via Facebook or email: druginformation@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk 💜

Did you know your heart and brain are more connected than you might think? ❤️🧠

New BHF-funded research shows poorer heart health in your 40s and 50s may increase your risk of developing dementia later in life.

The good news? Taking care of your heart now could help protect your memory and thinking skills in the years to come.

“This underscores why British Heart Foundation is investing £10 million into its Centre for vascular dementia research, alongside the UK Dementia Research Institute, to find better ways to prevent and treat the devastating impact of vascular dementia." - Professor Bryan Williams, our Chief Scientific and Medical Officer

Diabetes has serious long-term health impacts, including a significant increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes among adults.

Simple actions like regular exercise, healthy eating and avoiding to***co can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

On Friday’s World Diabetes Day, World Health Organization (WHO) shares more tips on preventing and treating this chronic disease: https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-diabetes-day
