A piece on the BBC this morning about the Vagus nerve, what it does, and how to settle it.

Working with the Vagus nerve is important, as is settling the whole of the nervous system and helping it to work flexibly - supporting us when we face danger or challanges, calming down when we need to rest.

A slow gentle yoga practice with space to move at your own pace is one way we can help the nervous system, and in particular yoga breathing and energy practices know as Pranayama. Pranayama doesn’t need to be complicated - a simple rhythmic slow breath or extended exhale.

The Therapeutic Yin Yoga classes we run on a Tuesday morning and evening at Yinspire are ideal for this. Why not join us?

You might not have heard of it, but can training your vagus nerve give you a moment or two of peace?

Timetable for this week appended. A couple of things of note:

- Wednesday evening Caroline's 6pm class is at 5:45pm for one week only,

- Thursday and Friday this week, the main road through Brading is closed from 9:30am till 15:30pm - please be aware if you are coming to Della on Thursday morning, or Caroline in Friday morning. You can still park in the main car park by the church and walk up.

- Wednesday this week - Brading Downs road is closed all day, one day only, which will mean no access via Bullys Hill.

Hope to see you soon

Good afternoon, I hope weekends are going well - have you been able to roll your mat out at home for a stretch and some breathing? It always makes the weekend for me.

One change to timetable this coming week - I am covering for Caroline on Wednesday evening, as she is away evening only. Everything else runs to normal schedule.

Forward reminder - week after next I am away so my Tuesday classes won't run on 28th October for one week. Back the week after DV.

Hope to see you in Studio.

The modern world of medicine is finally coming around to something recognised over two thousand years ago. With the rise of long-term conditions, it is becoming abundantly clear that treating a specific disease or its symptoms often fails to reach the root of the problem and may not offer a sustainable solution.

The person, their sense of meaning, environment, relationships, and the ways these shape behaviour, is inseparable from the disease process itself.

To meet the challenges of our time, where non-communicable diseases that often arise from lifestyle factors are the main causes of illness and early mortality, we must return to this wisdom.

Yoga therapy, informed by the kosha model, uses a five-part lens of interdependent layers of self to see each individual as a unique configuration of physical, energetic, mental, intuitive, and spiritual dimensions. This multidimensional view allows for a truly person-centred and adaptive approach that addresses health as an integrated whole rather than a collection of symptoms.

It offers a framework to understand what person the disease has, with disease understood in its broadest sense, as dis-ease.

At The Minded Institute, we call on the public and healthcare systems alike to look to yoga therapy’s model of diagnosis and care as a contemporary medical framework that meets the complexity of modern illness with depth, nuance, and humanity.

Please pass this message on, especially to those in the medical community. They are seeking a biopsychosocial model, and yoga therapy has had the solution all along.

Good afternoon, I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and enjoying a Sunny Sunday.

This weeks schedule appended. The big change is my Monday classes move to Tuesday and are re-imagined as "Therapeutic Yin Yoga" - a blend of Yin Yoga and Yoga therapy, ideal for those using Yoga to help with physical or mental health, or if you just want a slow unambitious, nurturing class.

So this weeks schedule is:

- Monday - no classes
- Tuesday AM and PM - Therapeutic Yoga with Jessica, evening on zoom as well
- Wednesday Downtime with Caroline in the morning, and Yin Yoga with Caroline in the evening
- Thursday - Intermediate Hatha Yoga with Della in the morning
- Friday - Pilates with Caroline in the morning.

Apologies for those caught up in a mix up around times for Pilates this week. Back to normal this week, DV
