Following a powerful national message from His Majesty The King, the NHS in mid and south Essex is encouraging local people to check whether they are eligible for routine cancer screening.

By speaking openly about his own cancer journey, The King has helped shine a light on the importance of early diagnosis. Cancer screening can detect disease earlier, and in some cases prevent cancer altogether, leading to better outcomes and less intensive treatment.

Dr Elizabeth Towers, System Clinical Lead for Cancer at NHS Mid and South Essex, said: His Majesty The King’s decision to speak openly about his cancer experience has been incredibly powerful, and we wish him well as he continues his treatment and recovery. It has helped shine a light on why cancer screening matters and why taking up invitations can make such a difference.

“Screening saves lives by finding cancer earlier, or in some cases preventing it altogether. I would strongly encourage anyone who receives an invitation, or who is unsure whether they are eligible, to check and take up screening when it is offered.”

Local health leaders are also reminding people to contact their GP promptly if they notice symptoms such as unexplained lumps, bleeding, a persistent cough, unexplained weight loss or changes that do not feel right.

Warm Spaces are welcoming places where anyone can come in, meet others, and enjoy a hot drink or even a meal — often at low cost, and sometimes completely free.

These spaces aren’t just about warmth; they’re about connection. They help reduce loneliness, offer a friendly face, and support in the colder months.

Sometimes a warm cuppa and a conversation can make a real difference to someone’s day. ☕💛

🌟 November is Men’s Health Awareness Month! 🌟

This month, we’re shining a light on the important issues that affect men’s health — prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental wellbeing.

💙 Prostate Cancer:
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. If you’re over 50 (or over 45 with a family history), talk to your GP about your risk and whether testing is right for you.

💙 Testicular Cancer:
It’s the most common cancer in younger men, but highly treatable when caught early. Check yourself regularly — it only takes a minute, but it could save your life.

💙 Mental Health:
Men often find it hard to open up, but talking really helps. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, or low mood — reach out. You’re not alone, and help is available.

Let’s break the stigma together.
👉 Check in on your mates.
👉 Book that check-up.
👉 Make your health a priority.

💙Healthy Heart Event Success! 💙

Over the weekend, our Braintree PCN team hosted another successful Healthy Heart Event for Church Lane Surgery, welcoming around 43 patients from across the PCN.

Supported by our amazing healthcare professionals, social prescribers, Park Run volunteers, Provide, Freshwell Low Carb Community, and even the Essex Therapy Dogs 🐾 — the event offered free health checks, blood pressure reviews, weight management advice, and smoking cessation support.

✅ 13 patients were identified with high blood pressure, including 2 needing urgent treatment — showing just how vital these community clinics are.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success! 💪❤️
