Essex Dementia Care

Essex Dementia Care http://www.essexdementiacare.org.uk/ Essex Dementia Care started in 2007, although we had a different name then. This is just the beginning. Charity No. 1129038.

We had done some research for the eight primary care trusts in Essex, looking for resources which might be available for people who were suffering from early onset dementia. We could find quite a few different services for people 70+, but very little that was suitable for fit and active people in their 50s and 60s – when early onset dementia usually starts. So we registered with the Care Quality Commission and began to develop a service of our own, designed with the needs of the younger person in mind, but able to accommodate the older person as well. What has evolved from those early days is a service of one-to-one care, companionship and support for the person with dementia, built around an active day which might be at home or out and about in the local community, and sometimes meeting up with others who have similar difficulties. You can read more about what we do in How We Can Help. Just recently, we have decided that it would serve the needs of our clients best if we became a charity, and to that end we have become a company and registered with the Charities Commission. We now have a solid team and a group of trustees with a very substantial expertise and experience of health and social care in Essex. We want to make a real difference to the lives of families living with dementia and with your help, your interest and involvement, we will. Essex Dementia Care is registered in England and Wales. Company No. 06820425.

It was Race Day at Chelmer and bets were placed on four races. With the roll of the dice, they were off! Our commentator Peter had them galloping up the course with each roll and our lovely Jill won three races out of four - a fun afternoon at Chelmer race track!

Mary and her ‘Memory Companion’ Kerry met up with Sheila and her ‘Memory Companion’ Eve for a cuppa at Hudson's cafe in Danbury. Mary enjoyed seeing Sheila and while they were all together, they face timed their old EDC friend Joan as she now lives in Milton Keynes. It was lovely seeing the ladies all waving to each other.

The students from Thriftwood College sang to the Broomfield group on Friday when they came to visit. They had been practicing Amazing Grace for an upcoming event.
We think they were all super and the clients enjoyed watching them.

The students from Thriftwood College had a great time with our clients at Broomfield last Friday. Many students recognised the clients and they were all happy to see each other again. Everyone enjoyed dancing to Andy Vocals after a game of card bingo and pizza for lunch.

Betty and her ‘Memory Companion’ Jill visited Abberton Reservoir. Betty enjoys the water and nature, so this is a firm favourite outing. Betty chatted with the staff and they mentioned Ingrebourne Valley at Hornchurch. Betty was thrilled as that was where she lived with her parents and siblings. She recalled the aeroplanes at R.A.F Hornchurch coming in and out. The staff gave Betty a leaflet about Ingrebourne Valley to keep for reference.
