🌞The summer months can present unique challenges for the hearing aid user.
Here’s are some top tips from Cheshire Hearing Centres to ensure you make the most of the warmer months.
1. Always carry extra batteries - or go rechargeable
With more time spent outdoors or travelling, having an extra set of batteries on hand is crucial. Rechargeable hearing aids are also an option. Just make sure you remember to pack your charger
2. Keep your hearing aids dry
Hearing aids perform best when kept dry, even if they are water-resistant. Bring a soft cloth or a microfibre towel to protect them from sweat, moisture and sun tan products. Wipe your hearing aids down a few times throughout the day to remove any moisture or debris.
3. Protect your hearing aids from heat
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures can damage your hearing aids. When not in use, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid leaving them in a hot car or direct sunlight for extended periods.
4. Regularly clean your hearing aids
Summer activities can expose your hearing aids to dirt, sweat, and sand. Regular cleaning and maintenance will help keep your devices functioning optimally.

Deaf awareness week runs from the 5th to the 11th of May.

Whilst it is an opportunity for businesses like ourselves to promote our services it’s also gives us time to reflect on the difficulties people who are deaf or hard of hearing face with day-to-day communication.

Here are four things we can all do to make life easier for those with hearing difficulties.
1. Face - face the person you are speaking to. This will allow them the opportunity to lip read or observe your facial gestures to fill in the gaps they may miss.
2. Articulate - Clear articulation when you are speaking is far more beneficial than raising your voice, clarity in your speech is so much better for the hard of hearing.
3. Be patient - those with hearing difficulties may need to hear something two or three times to be sure they understand correctly. It’s important that they feel part of the conversation rather than you giving up with them and saying it’s okay it doesn’t matter.
4. Learn a few simple phrases with sign language -help videos are available on the RNID website where you can learn more about their “it does matter” campaign and a big shout out to Books Bramhall who are running BSL classes. 👏

As always, if we can be of any help or answer any of your questions please give us a call on 0161 439 1135
