Thinking of all women today, whether you are celebrating or getting through just another day x
For many, Mother’s Day is a celebratory occasion in which you honor one of the most important people in your life. If you are a mother, you may enjoy a day of being appreciated and doted on. For others, Mother’s Day can bring up complicated, sometimes very painful emotions, especially for those who:
Do not have a good relationship with their mother
Are grieving the loss of their mother
Have a nonexistent relationship with their mother
Are a mother who is estranged from their children
Are grieving the mother they wish they had
Want desperately to be a mother and are coping with infertility
Are grieving the loss of a pregnancy or child
If this sounds like you, I see you and I want you to know that you can have conflicting emotions on Mother’s Day. There is enough space for grief and love, sadness and hope, despair and happiness, anger and gratitude. Rather than trying to feel only one way, practice making space for all of it. Allow yourself to feel multiple different ways, even if there seems to be one dominating feeling.
We are all complex, nuanced beings and our emotions tend to mirror that. On this Mother’s Day, let go of the “shoulds” and allow what is to just be.
From one human with complicated emotions to another, Happy Mother’s Day! 💛
