This World Cancer Day, we’re highlighting the importance of regular eye tests because they can help spot conditions early 💙
For Tammy Jackson, an appointment at her local Boots Opticians in Swindon led to an eye cancer diagnosis that potentially saved her sight.
Tammy Said: "I first noticed a quick flash in my vision while making a cup of tea at work, and a few days later the centre of my vision blurred. Something in my gut told me to get it checked. I called Boots Opticians, and thanks to their quick action, I was seen the same day."
She was seen by Optometrists Hassan and Daniel, who have both had Boots Macmillan Optician Professional training. This specialist training complements clinicians’ existing skills and supported in spotting the abnormality early and guiding Tammy through the next steps, ensuring she received urgent care.
Over the past year, Boots Opticians and Macmillan Cancer Support have trained over 900 clinicians, equipping them to support people living with cancer. Today, Boots Macmillan Optician Professionals can be found in 315 stores across the UK, using their skills not only to detect signs of eye cancer during routine tests but also to spot potential skin cancer on the face and head helping make early detection possible
