Sorry for the radio silence 🤐

This week has been a reminder that behind every clinic door is a real family doing their very best.

When illness hits and life shifts unexpectedly, balance becomes a little more delicate. I’m incredibly grateful for family support and for patients who meet unpredictability with kindness and understanding.

If you’re in a season where things feel stretched — be gentle with yourself. Some weeks are about progress. Others are about perseverance.

Both count 🤍

👣 Ask the Podiatrist 👣

We hear these questions every single week in clinic — and they’re always good ones. From foot pain and nail changes to diabetes checks and wounds, it’s often the small things that matter most.

If you’ve ever thought “Is this normal?” or “Should I get this checked?”

The answer is usually: yes — ask.

Early advice can make all the difference.

Early action makes all the difference 👣

A small corn with shallow underlying skin breakdown—picked up early because the patient knew when to book in and who to book with. This is where multidisciplinary input and healthcare collaboration really matter.

By combining clinical assessment, pressure management, and joined-up care, we can treat the problem before it escalates, protect skin integrity, and keep people comfortably mobile. Preventative, proactive foot care is always the goal.

If something doesn’t feel quite right, trust that instinct—timely intervention is a powerful part of good health care.

🦶 What is a biomechanical assessment – and why might you need one?

A biomechanical assessment looks at how your feet, ankles, and legs work when you stand and walk. At Bailey Podiatry & Reflexology, we use Digitsole Pro technology to measure pressure and movement through your feet in real time.

This helps us to:
✔️ See how your feet are loading and moving
✔️ Identify the cause of pain, fatigue, or recurring injuries
✔️ Understand issues such as heel pain, knee pain, hip pain, or back discomfort
✔️ Create a personalised treatment plan tailored to how you move

Rather than just treating symptoms, biomechanical assessment helps us address the underlying cause — supporting better comfort, function, and long-term foot health.

👣 Clinical assessment. Objective data. Personalised care.

We have a lockable metal cabinet (key in lock provided and 1 shelf inside) no longer needed if it would be of use to anyone free of charge - photo below.

Unfortunately, as we are short on space it has been placed outside the entrance to the clinic (beside little spar).

Alternatively if there are any scrap metal collectors in the area we are happy to arrange collection etc if not needed by next week.

We shall arrange a waste collection next week if no interest.

Thanks

🦶 Feet of the week 🦶

Today’s clinic favourite comes with a distinctly rural twist — these brilliant pheasant socks feel right at home here in Brampton.

Working in the heart of a rural community means we see a wonderful mix of practical footwear, countryside miles… and the occasional sock choice that makes us smile.

Comfortable, breathable socks are more than just a style choice — they help support healthy skin, especially for feet that do a lot of walking.

Country feet, well cared for 👣

We’re asked these questions every single week — and honestly, they’re brilliant questions 👣

Foot pain, skin changes, nail issues, footwear worries… if something doesn’t feel right, it’s always worth asking. Podiatry isn’t just about treating problems when they become painful — it’s about prevention, comfort and keeping you moving well.

If you’ve ever wondered whether something is “normal” or “worth getting checked”, this one’s for you.

Take care of your feet,

🦶 Diabetic Foot Care in Practice

Today’s images show the management of a superficial hallux ulcer in a patient with well-controlled type 2 diabetes, treated here in clinic.

Early identification, pressure offloading, regular debridement where appropriate, and structured wound care are key to supporting uncomplicated healing. Even when diabetes is well managed, small wounds on the feet should never be ignored, particularly in pressure-bearing areas such as the big toe (hallux).

This is a great example of how timely podiatric intervention can help reduce the risk of infection and promote steady improvement.

📌 Images shared with consent. Every foot and every wound is different — treatment plans are always individualised.

If you have diabetes and notice any break in the skin, redness, or persistent callus, please seek advice promptly.

✨ Small details that make me smile in clinic ✨

The new sign on the toilet door simply says “The Loo” — and it never fails to make me chuckle.

Is “the loo” a northern thing? I’m genuinely not sure, but it feels perfectly at home here in Brampton.

You might also spot our new hand wash and hand lotion pairing in clinic. I’m a Neal’s Yard Remedies Consultant, and I’ve chosen English Lavender & Calendula range for its gentle, nourishing properties — ideal for a clinical setting where hand care really matters.

I also use some of their beautiful products during reflexology treatments… but more on that very soon 💙

Sometimes it’s the little touches that help create a calm, welcoming space.

Take care of your feet,
Michelle x
